This is fun!

ill be doing 3 loops at demo tomorrow...anyone

Never Miiiiiiiiind. I'm still broken. Bearings almost definitely Not shot. I'm certain I can make it go away. Could be any # of things and I might not narrow down which one it is but with the overall "creak be gone" tune I'm sure we can get it.![]()
Bap: double check of tightness on bottom bracket bearings and pedals usually takes care of rotational clicks.
Yody: XT shifters are superb. Very durable and cheap. The XTR set the bar, but they are sooo expensive it's hard to justify the cost.
I just got a '08 Shadow series XT rear derailleur which is supposed to be a marked improvement on everything preceding it. I will give a report this week.
Wanna sell some shifters?
I'm thinking of going with some XT's like Harpo mentioned but they look pretty fragile with the entire housing made of plastic, although I'd guess they're fairly light, man those XTR's sure look like some nice bling but I don't think I'm gonna go for the $180 shifterstempting though....
Just missed a medal in my XC race yesterday.
It was an 18 mile, four lap event, and I held down third for most of it. I was all alone for most of lap 3, and decided to click it down half a notch to let my legs recover. Somehow, the fourth place rider closed the gap quickly, making the pass at the start of lap 4 just before the start-finish. The guy literally came out of nowhere.
His burst of speed ran out on the first climb, allowing me to close the gap. From that point on, it became a chess match. I was outclimbing him, but he was cornering faster than I was on the loose stuff. I figured I could follow him to the line and explode up the hill, but there were 3-4 loose, grassy corners right before the final climb to the finish - I was pretty sure he'd gap me enough there to hold me off at the line.
I put my strategy into place, and decided to pass on one of the final climbs, gap through the faster section, and run defensive lines in the last few corners. My plan fell apart when I drifted wide on a faster corner, allowing the other rider to slip ahead of me again.
That was when slower riders from another wave came into play. The other rider made a pass on a younger rider that I couldn't follow, putting a 2-3 second gap on me. I tried forcing a pass on the same rider, but couldn't make it happen - he was on the edge of control and couldn't really slow down.
In retrospect, I probably should have done a few things once I took the lead:
- ridden conservatively in the fast section where it's difficult to pass instead of trying to make a break
- saved my strength for passing slower riders
- ridden defensive lines in the last few corners
- left myself something for the sprint to the finish.
Part of me is bummed that I didn't take home a medal, but I'm looking forward to doing it all again![]()

That's outstanding Mikey. Well done![]()
i DNF'd......tore the threads off my rear non-drive side nut (solid axle) about 10 feet after lap 1......ugh.....never figured i'd get a mechanical on a rigid SS![]()
....
I used to think single speed guys were nuts, but after chasing someone one of the guys at Annadel on a lightweight single speed next week and reading an article about it somewhere, it actually sounds kind of neat![]()

I was joking with all the people at the different stops, and in the end I won a category. The gravediggers awarded me for “best eulogy” because I goofed with them every time I went by. So you don’t have be the fastest or some raging ass yelling “heads up” at everyone or bashing someone’s bike to win, that alone makes the Soil Saloon my favorite race this year.Good times… Next weekend – Skyline.
I raced the soil saloon yesterday on my Intense Tracer, lots of SS guys, and one awesome dude on a Uzzi (easily the biggest bike out there). It was like a mini poker run with fun stops.
No that was the big bike. Hope to get better times through climbing on the XC rig.

when are you heading down to SLO mike? there's a ride a few people i know are doing the last weekend of November that you need to do with us![]()
