Do You Mountain Bike?

Hell, with a 50 rear, might as well go 39 :laughing

I'm running a 32 XX1. I know I could push a 34, but I basically never spin out on the hard tail.

I have a 32t absolute black oval ring which is the equivalent 30t on the dead spot (top/bottom) and a 34t in the power spot. I was sold right away after riding it for a short time. Take a spin on one if you get the chance. :thumbup

I'd like to try an oval on my trail bike. I'm running a 34 on a 650 and it is just about right. I'd like to be able to climb better when tired.

The oval helps me spin better overall, and that lets me push a harder gear.

Highballs are carbon frames, not steel. SC frames are known for being pretty damn durable, so not sure where the guy is getting the idea that they're weak. Maybe he had is brands mixed up.

Sorry not steel, aluminum 'my mistake. The 29 highball d build on their website is an aluminum frame the X11 and xx1 are both the carbons I think. He worked at a local bike shop who sells Santa Cruz bikes. He said he was just trying to give me fair warning and to look at the strength tests.

I always thought Santa Cruz was one of the best and everyone always raves about how great of bikes they are. I'm pretty sure that's the direction I'm going to take. Just waiting for mikes bikes to have thei semi annual sale to get it cheaper :)

Ah, got it. I really wouldn't worry about it too much. You have to really be riding the crap out of an aluminum frame to damage it. Most modern ones, SC included, are pretty dang strong. With that being said, plenty of other manufactures make nice aluminum bikes as well, so be sure to see what else is out there and on sale!

Also, did anyone see this: https://dirtmountainbike.com/bike-reviews/trail-enduro-bikes/trek-launch-slash-29-video.html. God damn that's a sweet bike! I just don't have enough enduro stuff in AZ to justify it.

Some more pics from Crested Butte. I spent yesterday at the bike park. So much fun, although a bit more bike than my 120/130 Fuel would have been nice on the blacks and double blacks. Still had a total blast and set some pretty good times down the mountain.

Psycho Rocks... absolute nutty ride. This is a view from the lift up

A feature along the way

Ha, yea, I didn't have those things

The resort also had some longer DH trails that didn't lose elevation so quick. Really reminded me of Pisgah riding when it got rocky and rooty. Here's some smoother stuff

I've can't say i've ever seen a broken SC frame and i've personally had like 4? I'd take his warning with a grain of salt as it just isn't true.

While we're talking about frames I have to mention these guys: On One. I have the 456 EVO2 steel frame and have been thrashing the shit out of it for something like 3 years. It's easily one of my favorite hardtail frames of all time. Best part..? I think I paid $250 for it shipped! They have a 29er frame right now under $200 bux..

I really want to check this one out:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bik/5686233147.html

but I think I have my heart set on the Transition. Unfortunately there's only two bike shops that are both pretty far from me that carry them.

Well just bought a brand new 2016 Santa Cruz highball d build from mikes bikes today :) super stoked can't wait for it to come in.

Congrats! Did you get the 27.5 or 29?

I can't ride anything for another month (actually, probably closer to two months) but I'm super tempted to buy something and just stare at it while I heal up...

Made it over to Mt. Hood for some DH action. They have good mix of everything from rocks to ramps. The pro DH track is no joke. I had to pick my way down some unexpected mega steep shit early in the day. :wow The freeride park is nicely done too. Lots of fun wood features to get broke off on. :ride

I went with a 29er, I'm 6'6 so I figured it would be a better choice for me. If anyone is ever down to show me some local trails I would be super grateful. :)

Nice.

I bought that hardtail 27.5" off craigslist that I linked last weekend. Going to be about 2 more months till I can actually ride on any trails but it looks nice.

That sucks... Shit like that I go back and demand my money back. I'm fine replacing a few things here and there but to get that burned I would for sure want my money back

Sucks. Would it be worth it to try and have the frame repaired? In what way are the brakes fucked?
