Do You Mountain Bike?

I'm dropper posted for life. I think its my dirt bike background but I hate having my seat anywhere near my arse when i'm descending. I really need to upgrade my current 125mm to a 170mm for more extension. Waiting for them to go on sale $400 bux for 2 inches ... :|

Did you see the new Karate Monkey? :ride

My trail bike has a Reverb, I love it. My XC doesn't. Funny thing is, the only thing I do differently between the two bikes is hesitate to take on larger jumps and drops. The trail bike is 130mm full, the XC is 100mm HT. I just last night shocked someone with how high I was launching off the jumps on the one jump line we rode, I was the only one to go up the step up :D

Hopefully my next XC will be full squish.

If I go rigid, I am thinking rigid SS carbon. Super weight weenie bike, something I can still race on. I do want a fat bike too after spending a lot of time on a Salsa Bucksaw.

Hmm, I was wondering if 125mm would be enough travel for me. I wish I could try one out before buying.

I'd say measure it out and just get the biggest you can. I am about 5'9" on a 2007 large and while I do run a 125mm dropper, I can only just barely. Post is slammed as low as it goes!

Most of the higher end posts will give you an unlimited range of heights between top and bottom (not that I use anything other than all the way up or all the way down), so I see no real disadvantage to a 150mm or 175mm (dag yo) if you can fit it!

Edit** Oh wait...other than cost maybe. I didn't check.

I just want to know if the OP still rocks it. :teeth

I think 150mm is the max I could use on mine, 125 barely fits. Going one more inch isn't any further out of my way, so 125 is fine.

Measure out how much post is showing now, then look at the various models to see what works. They will all have some minimum drop. So if you have 100mm of post showing right now, and 125mm post would be too long because it is 125mm plus the minimum of something like 25mm (so 150 total). Make any sense?

New old fork craigslisted, so now I have a normal fork/wheel combo.

Anybody putting in trail time tomorrow?

That count? :D

No trophies today though...

Little bit of everything. My local trail is desert mountain landscape. I'll have video with my new cameras soon :)

But I also race in Big Bear mountain which is mountain forest. Here is video from a guy I raced against this year:

First 29 minutes is all fireroad, mostly climbing. Next hour and a half is almost all single track:

Up to 5:30 is boring climbing, then single track climbing. 11:30 is descent:

Putting together a new mtb. Still waiting on a few parts, but hope to get it done this week.

Got some smooth-ish trails within riding distance from my house. Rigid with some good tubeless tires will be perfect for them. That and I'll do a couple CX races with it.

Thinking of selling my Trek Gary Fischer 29er if anyones interested. Large frame. I don't use it for anything other then rolling around the streets with my kids and am going to get something more appropriate for that.

I'm north of Sacramento though. If anyone's interested let me know.

I'm thinking ~$400 or so.

hardtail or full squish? pics? im in sacramento in search of a full suspension 29er frame.
