My thoughts are decreased spending on bullshit military warmongering, and more on education and infrastructure, with a concerted effort to provide opportunities for "inner city youth".
We could send a lot of kids to college for the cost of one fucking bomber or new tank.

Many areas need personal gain removed. Create and promote backscratching systems. Get people interested in feeling the reward from doing things that help others and get them interested in feeling the appreciation of others doing things for them. We need to reignite connections between people and stop rewarding this 'me-me-me-fuck-everyone-else' nonsense.

I don't know that anyone has said the jury of 12 is racist, but they are saying the system is racist. So how do we solve that?

There were definitely conflicting witness statements. I don't think that is unusual in a trial. The hope is that when you compare the evidence to the testimony you can pick out the people that are lying.

I'd say the Bay Area is a geo that leans toward acceptance of differing cultures. Given that perspective - this forum is a microcosm of our local society. You would need to be delusional or intellectually deficient to suggest bigotry does not exist on BARF.

Racism is a systemic practice to limit or remove the rights or opportunities of a minority group - normally based on physical characteristics. There is a fair amount of bigotry on BARF. When those bigots on BARF are in a position to use their will (in a negative / systemic way) on folks who are different then they are racist. For example - the teacher who drops the N-word on BARF and insist "those people" just can't preform academically (because they are black) and intentionally grades those minority students at a higher standard. That is a racist.

How do you solve racism? When you see bigotry, kill it (metaphorically, please). It is a plague and as long as it is tolerated, it will persist. Bigotry is the root of racism. Good luck.

Since the media got on board this whole thing has never about a black unarmed MAN being shot. He was not a kid, I don't care what anyone says.

It has been about black vs. white. Let's face it, this is all about race, racism, and how each side is somehow morally right or wrong in their viewpoint.

This would not have even made headlines if it was white on white or black on black. It really shouldn't matter but it does. If it was a white cop killing a white guy nobody would say shit. If it was a black cop killing a black guy, nobody would say shit.

It is what it is. We can all spin it however we want. This is about race.

On the subject of Ferguson, I don't think looting helps the cause. However, the PD needs to be a little more diverse to allay the concerns of the local population. What would locals think in Moscow, Idaho if their police department is all black?

I don't recall seeing a police car even one time in Moscow, Idaho the whole 4 years I lived on the Palouse.

I have seen Pullman and WSU PD cars plenty of time though :|

You ALWAYS have a choice. I keep hearing about how the poor black youth of Ferguson and other low income, predominantly black areas, can't find work, and there are only white cops. As for the cops, maybe no black people there want to be cops? How about a breakdown on how many black people applied to be police officers? Or would that be racist.

Jobs. 11 million illegal aliens can find work here, and many of them do pretty well, and still send money home. What's the excuse for young black men?

Was looking at Maps of the area. Its a nice residential area with small houses and moderately large apartment complexes. Clean streets with some businesses sprinkled around. Churches, Schools and a Community College in the community. Seems the solution is already done. Safe neighborhood with plenty of community support and education.

Ferguson is more likely a victim of outside forces. Violence imported and local misguidance towards violence. You can get incite violence in people if there isn't enough Tickle me Elmo to go around.

The fictional accounts of the shooting had way too much credibility. These stories completely debunked are still believed. I said earlier some don't believe in Law and Justice system. It doesn't matter the proof of self defense, they don't believe it. Solution ? Their closed minded, set in their beliefs. Not the best situation for living in a Nation of Laws. They don't believe in the concept of laws. It doesn't matter the race of a criminal who committed a crime, they broke the law and there is consequences. Now go make a nice community where staying out of trouble is not hard. Generations of non violent and educated residents have no limitations for success.

If you make minimum pay, there aren't a lot of places you can live.

I don't think a single parent living in Bay Area and working minimum pay can rent a single bedroom apartment in Menlo Park/Palo Alto and still have money left to feed and clothe her children.

Heck even in LA, a house even in South Central costs $350k. And it is not even a question of race but of poverty. South Central is now half Mexican and half Black. And there are gangs emerging from both these communities. Heck even some of the illegal aliens are gangbangers. So it is not just a problem limited to Blacks or legal aliens.

What we have is a huge chasm between whites and blacks perception of events. I feel as if they are saying the same thing but talking on two different wavelengths.

Protesters and many others feel the 70% white jury and white judge are the reason. Would a 100% black jury and black judge have come to the same decision? Don't know. The fact there were any whites involved in this decision allows those to say the system is corrupt and 'white privledge' continues.

No knews coveresge about the 5 year black girl that was shot in the head by a drive by IN ST. LUIS or the white undercover cop shot to death by a black guy in Akron early this month.

Here's a little bit of a problem.

The most recent data available shows 162,000 federal cases in 2010 and only eleven resulted in the Grand Jury not indicting -- with a notable exception being police shootings.

Maybe -- just maybe -- cops tend to get off easier.

Or maybe, just maybe, police shootings are the kind of events that tend to go before grand juries for political reasons, when there wasn't any basis for criminal charges in the first place.

Ministry of Justice figures revealed almost two‑thirds (64%) of the young rioters lived in the poorest areas and 42% relied on free school meals. "There is nothing so dangerous as a man who has nothing to lose," wrote James Baldwin. "You do not need 10 such men. Only one will do." With youth unemployment rising to 21.9%, Britain is producing thousands.

The solution has already known. The greedy who benefits from a winner-take-all economy will lie and misdirect to keep the money flowing their way.
