Flat Track Racing Mega Thread - INCLUDES SPOILERS!

Bayliss is really struggling in T1 - tho he's OK elsewhere, unless he unlox a secret he will not qualify.....

Super long lines at the Lloyd Bros Scrambler popups with folks bringing 996 side panels & other parts for a very patient & cooperative TB21 to sign in addition to the expected top notch Ducati posters

Great racing all night. I love the Mile!

To abide by the "No Spoilers" thread title I have posted the SAC Mile results---> HERE

Includes info on Troy Bayliss and a few pictures.

Great racing all night. I love the Mile!

Yeah... me too.
Was kinda bummed I couldn't get there (work) but totally enjoyed the FansChoice streaming of the event.

Kawasaki porn from a photo article on Soup dated yesterday. this bike is just so beautifully minimalist

^^^that loverly bike^^^ was on display alongside the pair o'Milers upon which BS42 competed at Sacto [& COTA X Games, for that matter]

his current racebike, while quite svelte & different from everyone else's, isn't this example - dunno its story

Isn't that the new bike for 2015? I read that its still being sorted so Smith has been riding the previous Howerton Kawasaki, which is also quite a beautiful bike.

here's the latest foto of the Street 750's FT racing version,
claimed in a Vance & Hines TV ad run during the X Games as being built by them

I hope they can find another cushion half-mile or similar.

I always wanted to go watch Pomona for so many reasons: cushion track, championship has been decided at the last race for the last few years, so many big names from the moto industry attend. Unfortunately, it was always scheduled during my busy season for work and I couldn't take time off.

Hagerstown, MD Half Mile Saturday night, June 20. Blue groove, banked track usually offers a wide line for plenty of passing opportunities.
Hagerstown kicks off the meaty part of the AMA Pro Flat Track schedule with 10 races between June 20 and September 26.

Event info and schedule (all times Eastern)

Good news about Indian. The "factory effort" part sounds like they are serious.

I'm not that thrilled about any move to ditch the singles. Trying to appeal to the over 50 crowd is not going to keep FT viable. Hell, I'm going to be 51 in a few days and I feel like a teenager among traditional FT fans. I admire Larry Lawrence's enthusiasm but he's in dreamland. Again. He's high. He's gone walkabout. He's lost the plot. He's nuts. Do I make myself clear? :laughing

We just had a spectacular Indy Mile with twins for both classes and nobody showed up. Where were the "only race twins and racers have to weather leathers" crowd? They were at home arranging their pill calendars for the next week and complaining about everything. I just shake my head when I read the comments on Facebook about "Bring back the twins for every race" or "I'm not watching MX bikes and racers wearing MX gear!". What bullshit. Times change. Two strokes are gone from GP and MX. Superbikes are no longer 750cc and the world keeps spinning. FT isn't going back to the '60s or '70s. If FT is going to grow they have to change and the fans have to accept change.

Flat Track is getting more attention than it has in many years all because of Marc Marquez bringing back Superprestigio and the Troy Bayliss Classic. The American riders are shocked by all the media attention in Spain and at home for an indoor short track race. On DTX bikes. Nobody watching Superprestigio around the world gives a shit about twins or singles. They just want big names and good racing. Just make the Main 25 laps. :teeth

I think you're spot on with all your comments -
it truly is a different world, in oh so many ways

[secretly wishing for 750TTs, regardless......shhhh]

I'm almost a decade older than you, and I feel the same way at the races - like a kid.
The racing needs to move on - even though I'd love to see a modern rendition of Class C racing, which could be done with the Kawasakis for instance, but I don't think it's realistic. They just need to run stuff that puts on a good show, has multiple manufacturers involved, and has costs that privateers can manage.

Let's build on the gift that Marquez has given.

I've been wondering about the Kawasaki flat track motor. I assumed they were running them as straight 650's (watercooled with 4 valve heads), but I was watching a race the other day and heard Chris Carr speculating on whether a particular rider was using a 700 or 740 cc motor. Do you know what they're doing to increase the displacement. Stroking them or boring them or both? I didn't think the motor had much room - if any - for an oversize bore. :dunno
