Flat Track Racing Mega Thread - INCLUDES SPOILERS!

I can see some justification for this... nothing would make flat track really take off more than a good Indian vs. Harley factory rivalry but it'd be tough for those manufacturers to justify racing a Honda or a KTM or whatever single on the small tracks or the TTs.

yo,

I just sent this to one of the Calistoga promoters:

"the hundreds of Valley Fire refugees now living at the Napa County Fairgrounds may well hamper track prep - what's your go/no go decision date for The Calistoga 1/2-Mile ?"

I'm guessing they were already struggling with this. And they are facing the same unknowns as everyone else. How long will it take to prep the track? Is that a 2 day activity or a 10 day activity?

Its the right decision. The fairgrounds are serving a more important purpose now.

still no decision on any Calistoga reschedule.......

meanwhile, at the FL Supreme Court:

Deconstructing Mees' DuQuoin tire controversy

".....the series organizer basically admitted to stuff they’ve spent the last couple of months desperately trying to keep out of the public eye.

So yes, AMA Pro’s admitted those rumors were true.....

.....official statement: “AMA Pro did not have consistent custody of the tire between competition and testing. Without being able to conclusively determine that the chemicals were on the tire during competition, the company cannot proceed with issuing a penalty.”.....

.....According to AMA Pro Racing, this matter is closed (although they’ll take steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again). Meanwhile, my phone keeps ringing and I’m hearing from people who’ve been involved in, and supported, flat track for years. They’re telling me that I haven’t heard the last of this.

So, probably, neither have you

Sad trombone.

I'm disappointed.

Any idea why the Delmar GNC1 main is not visible on YouTube? It looks like it was up, 8 people viewed, but now it's unavailable. :confused

They've been posting the races on the FansChoice.TV site. Just click on this short and easy-to-decipher URL.

Cancelled :(

Fans who purchased pre-sale tickets for the 2015 Ramspur Winery Calistoga Half-Mile presented by Triumph will be offered a complete refund. For more information, please visit http://www.flattrackcalistoga.com or call 888-718-4253.

Very sad. A lot of work went into promoting this race. The poster has to be one of the best I've seen to date.

Hopefully we'll see Calistoga back on the calender for 2016.

Thanks! I'll check it out there.

FWIW, I like it on Youtube because it's easy to watch it on our big screen through the Apple TV. Yes, white people problems. :p

I prefer the YouTube channel as well but I'm afraid we'll see more of this must-visit-our-site approach in the future. I noticed MotoAmerica has a bunch of their races from the past season available through their website but not YouTube. The KTM RC Cup races are awesome. Just like Moto3 except you can pronounce most of the riders' names.

Article in this week's Cycle News about FansChoice.TV and how it was developed has progressed. I'm overall very happy with FansChoice.TV for AMA Pro Flat Track and MotoAmerica. The production values keep improving and I still can't believe I can watch the entire event live with no commercials FOR FREE. I'd pay for it. There is no going back to TV after dipping my race fan toes in live streaming.

Mike Kidd does good work but leaves after a year. Ronnie Jones does some good work and gets some new title after a year. At least all competitors will be issued stylish leather European carryalls.

Interview with AMA Pro Racing CEO Michael Lock

".....Since the teams and riders are the best source of input on what appropriate machinery will look like and what the variety of tracks will demand, AMA Pro Racing is relying heavily on direction from the paddock in developing the final [2017] rules package.....

.....At this point, many elements, such as whether courses like the Peoria TT will remain on the calendar after the changes, remain up in the air.....

.....flat track needs to get bigger, better, be promoted better and be taken to a wider audience. We end up with a sport by 2020 that could compete with Supercross or baseball or any other professional sport that people go to where the fan experience is modern.....

.....Lock is enthusiastic about developing partnership opportunities with MotoAmerica in the coming years as well.....Wayne Rainey is a flat track guy.....He gets it 100%.....how can we help each other out?

I agree that flat track has to expand its fan base. When I go to the races I feel like one of the young guys, and I'm 60. :wtf

It's the best racing I've ever seen, but it's hard to convince folks who haven't been to one to come check it out. Best of luck to him on that endeavor.

I totally get the motivation of the manufacturers who don't make a 450 single to keep their riders on their brand for all races, but if in doing so it makes the Peoria TT fall off the schedule, that would be a travesty. Even with the dominance of Henry Wiles, it's one of most exciting races, and I would love to go see it while it's still a national race.
