Flat Track Racing Mega Thread - INCLUDES SPOILERS!

Glad to see Shayna have such a good night. She crushed it and that opening lap in the Main was the shit.

The Twins Main had so much potential with Carver, Wiles and Bauman riding so well. The two remaining TTs and Springfield II are likely the only chances to see someone else on the top step this season.

AFT could use a lot more cushion races each season. Look at how bad ass Henry Wiles is.

Did the girl in the clean leathers just get up there to pose??

Nope she kicked the boys asses!! :party

That pic of Wiles is great. I agree the cushion track (few they might be) tend to provide some awesome racing. :thumbup

Also, mark you calendars for the MotoBay Classic Super Hooligans race on Saturday August 18th on Piers 30 & 32 in San Francisco promoted by Western Flat Track. I can't find a specific web page for this event. I don't know if its free or how much tickets will cost. Hoping for more details before I post a thread about this in General.

MOTOBAY CLASSIC: Western Flat Track is honored to announce this upcoming event in San Francisco on August 16th to 18th on Piers 30 & 32.

Presenting the International Police Motor Skills Competition

The MotoBay Presents:
* International Police Motor Skills Competition
* Roland Sands Design
* Indian Motorcycle
* Roland Sands Design Superhooligans
Additional activities include motorcycle drag races, "Race a Cop slalom course", and of course motorcycle flat track racing by Western Flat Track! It's gonna be a moto circus.

We'll be running on an asphalt track approximately 180' long. We did extensive testing yesterday and the surface is going to work very well. Note that this is NOT a WFT championship race.

The Super Hooligan class takes top bill, Rod Lake's 125 Invitational will be there, the SFPD has requested a Run What You Brung class for the motorcycle cops and Supermoto was made for this track. We are considering what other classes to add.

well, for me, the best part of the nite was Worm, aka Larry Pegram,
making the Main (& finishing) on a small team’s XR750 !!

Larry won his 1st (only?) FT National race over 20 yrs ago
before he switched to AMA SBK

he had a coupla rides on the factory Injun last year -
IIRC, he made at least 1 Main on it, as well.....

The Singes racing was good. And the Twins Main was good for a few laps. Don't know what happened to Carver in the Main. Have to wonder if Briar Bauman had a better starting spot, if we could have seen more challenges at the front.

Long layoff for AFT but some of the racers are already in England for the promotional appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. And the X Games Flat Track is scheduled for Sunday, July 22.

after watching X Games FT, I offer that seeing Dianna Dahlgren
amongst factory XR750s was the most interesting thing

oh, & Worm riding, also on an XR

the racing? meh

wait! - even more meh was the Hooligan race,
billed equally online with the AFT masters......

regardless, it was great for ESPN to develop this FT idea -
next time, a better circuit, pls

I've read on social media that Brad Baker was injured early in the X Games program today. No details but some of the posts make it sound like he was seriously injured.

He's had a tough year as his Dad died a few months ago and his dog died earlier this summer. Now this. Please keep Brad Baker in your thoughts.

for the love of god please put them on a 1/2 mile track! That was slow and dizzying:thumbdown

Twins on a "good" flat track are a great show, also slower than singles. Think open class at Lodi or Fremont in the 70's. The problem is the CRAP tracks and not just short tracks.

yeah, looking back, haznt this crap X-track situation been consistent?

X Games = sh*tty circuit

Brad Baker with a spinal injury from X-Games practice. Scanned the last few pages and didn't see any posts about this, and I was out in the Sierras this weekend, so this is the first I've heard of it.

Really hope Brad pulls through on this. He's a super nice guy, from what I've seen the last couple years at Calistoga.

Thanks for the update. Brad is definitely a class act. Looking for a good outcome.

Some news on Brad Baker from Asphalt and Rubber and Baker family Facebook posts:

https://www.asphaltandrubber.com/racing/brad-baker-x-games-crash/

Few details have been released by the family or team since the crash, but we do know that Baker underwent surgery on Sunday to repair multiple fractures to his T6 vertebra, which was putting pressure on Baker’s spinal cord and causing paralysis.

The Baker family says that the surgery relieved the pressure put on the spinal cord, and that Brad’s spinal cord was not severed in the crash, which is very positive news.

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!

AFT summer break is over and racing starts with the Buffalo Chip TT on Sunday followed by the Black Hills Half Mile on Tuesday night and the Peoria TT a few weeks later. The Jared Mees hegemony might be broken at the TTs. Wiles and Bauman were well out front last year at the Buffalo Chip and both have FTR750s that have performed well this season. Wiles is entered on the Indian so we may not see the TT special Kawasaki any more this season. Adding one more FTR750 to the mix is TT specialist and road racing standout, Hayden Gilliam racing his first Twins events at the Buffalo Chip, Black Hills, Peoria and the Springfield Mile.

Anyone else a bit bothered that Brad Baker is needing donations to cover his current and forthcoming medical expenses, when he works for Indian? Polaris is a huge company, with tons of resources. I'd like to think that they'd cover this for Brad, or at least have a comprehensive medical plan for him and their other riders.
