I want to run a marathon. (The running thread)

Thanks for sharing your marathon experience John:applause:thumbup

You did great!:cool

So, which marathon were you thinking of doing next?:p

Not sure yet. Was just talking to Mike about that this past weekend. Want to start training for tris as well.

Congrats again, John. Let me know if any marathons look good to you.

There's the Silicon Valley Marathon in November, but that course sounds kinda blah. The California International Marathon in December sounds a bit hilly. Biz Johnson is sold out.

Maybe we're waiting til Napa?

Much applause for you John.

That was a great story and the photo's say it all. I'm glad you were able to set out and accomplish this monumental task.

Next one, I want to be right there with you guys!

I'm doing a double run tonight!

Napa is in March right? That would be a good goal to set.

Agreed. I'm in no rush.

When were you thinking of doing your first tri? Could be time for another new, fun thread :)

I'd like to get some time training first. I might be enticed into doing a sprint earlier than later, but anything beyond minimal distances and I'm gonna need some training. Gotta do some more reading on tris before I can say for sure.

First of all, a big congrats to Bap! :thumbup (Yeah, I'm a bit late to this thread.)

I definitely recommend against the Silicon Valley Marathon. Yes, it's totally flat especially compared to the SF marathon, but the last 10K of the race is brutal. It is literally straight down First Street in Downtown San Jose. Yes, straight. There are no freakin turns the last 6 miles. I swear that every time I looked up, it felt like the mile markers were getting farther and farther apart.

Hey Kids,

So, it looks like I just went ahead and took the plunge. I signed up for the Rock & Roll in San Diego next year. (June 1st, 2008) I have 36 weeks to train for it. Anyone else want to do this with me, or am I gonna fly solo?

This one has been hanging over my head for a few years. I previously signed up for it a few years ago, but I got injured during the training. I'm determined to make it this time.

I'm up to 2 miles only right now, so I have a long way to go. I'm not worried. The last time I made a decision to run a marathon, I couldn't even run around the block. So, I figure that I'm ahead of the curve this time.

An intriguing and inspirational movie. Hope to see it if/when it comes to the Bay Area:

Spirit of the Marathon

Thanks. That was cool. Man, I guess it's been a while since I was running a lot. I remember when Deena (Drossen) Kastor was a cross country champion and mostly a 5K specialist. She's running marathons now? That's cool.

edit: In case anyone cares, I'm up to three-mile runs now. Just plugging away on my end. :teeth

CONGRATS BRO!!!

You said and you did!!!!!

Mighty achievement there, dawg!!! HUGE!!!

Set your Tivos.
