I want to run a marathon. (The running thread)

Just did Bay to Breakers. Next is Wharf to Wharf. gearing up for the Rock and Roll Half.

They took the fun out of B2B.

Wharf to Wharf is to 10k. Santa cruz to Capitola and back. Sold out in a day.

wharf to barf? LOL

Running the rock and roll in 4 weeks. Not where i would like to be in my training. Run 6 miles a few times a week. Uggg

good luck Jim. I know I need to go turn some miles more often. think I'll start some this morning. :)

Do a couple of long runs by next month, and you should have no problem completing it.

For SJRnR, run the first ten miles, race the last 3.1 (5K)

I'll be there running with my family.

The Twin Cities Marathon is less than 5 weeks out. Have a 16 mile this Sat and an 18 on the 22nd. That's the longest I'll run beforehand and adrenaline will take me to 26.

As "bootsy" said, you'll do fine if you just throw in a couple of long runs beforehand. I did the SF 1st Half with no issues and hadn't run anything longer than 9.

Running 5 days a week at this stage, but nothing longer than 60-70 minutes on weekdays

Finally broke 4 hours. Not fantastic, but I'm happy with it. One thing lead to another and I never ran more then 18 miles a couple months ago. But my cross training (weights, random cardio, etc) I think really helped out. Of course I could really feel the squats I did Wednesday during the run, oops.

Way more incredible is that my wife completed her first. She didn't train at all due to health problems. Her last run was 3 miles in December. She got in a 9 mile some time before that. But otherwise nothing since a 3+ hour half marathon last summer. She entered anyway because she is a never give up type and she finished.

Nice

I have few runs coming up soon. Something is up with my heal and hard to walk right now.

Ouch...may be Plantar Fasciitis (PF). Maybe a good idea to see a podiatrist to confirm. PF can take several months to heal...sorry!!

Every time I either didn't have time or felt sore I would use a cardio machine at the gym and keep my HR low, between 60-70%.

bump :cool

Recently ran the Mt. Si 50k ultra outside of Seattle (snowqualmie). officially.

Good run, lots of rain, but it afforded cool weather. Luckily only about 1000ft elevation gain too.

hit a new pr: 6:45, total of 31.17 miles.

It was a good run, even though I don't do long runs in my training that are longer than 14 miles. you have to walk at some point in ultras, so I just run about 75% and walk the rest. I shoulda changed socks at mile 21. ended up with about 7 blisters, but recovered pretty well by the following Thursday. :teeth

Nice job!! :thumbup

Don't know if I'll ever do an ultra....still trying to get consistent times in the marathon...:mad

Take beet juice the morning of your competition. Amount's gonna vary from person to person but something along the line of 1-2 shots.
