me in?on? a bike.

With a strong but cheap servo a flat slide would to burnout stuffs. I can volunteer time.

Then you shall have!!

Yea, you will need to get here early. After that BBQ thread you started, guess who's cookin' for everyone!

:drool

This is gonna be awesome.
Anyone here ever tried a Kickstarter campaign? Bet we could raise some dough... and I love the idea of a build party at oobus' place. Heck, we could make a documentary out of the build while we're at it, and then take Adam to Sundance in the new sidecar for the premiere. :laughing

In!

Multi quote fail

It's KS, multi-quote is not a requirement. :p

well, i'm not much of a builder but i've seen you in your chair and you have a harness that goes right across your chest from left to right as i recall with a snap in belt type mode. that could be made pretty easy, there's a store in berkeley that sells stuff like that... indurstrial professional type thingies... i don't have a word for it, but basically they provide materials that might help you with the harness. as for comfort... i would venture to guess that maybe joan's fabrics might carry some thick fabrics that we could sew around the harness and make it padded, hmmm....

i'll check up on that store in berkely and i can make a trip to joann's .. i live right by it, and i can see what kind of materials and fabrics they carry.

get some pricing on this stuff...

it might be even easier to take padded like tuby things from an already built seat and somehow remove them to put them on your harness.

you need to be supported upright .. but how much can your body take bending at the waist?? this special seat would prolly be have to be reajusted to not be so tight. you need an upright position... so a car racing seat, i've been in some and those things make you sit with your legs almost straight and bent at the knees.. which would mean... we need to take like a coushy van seat.. and somehow make holes through it in the proper locations to attache the harnesses you need.

i'm just tossing around some ideas. more like thinking out loud a bit.

glad to see you in good spirits.

btw... my dad lost his leg because of arterial sclarosis, and he's been modifiying stuff to be able to drive his van. he had to relearn to drive with his left foot. but he's a pro when it comes to creating padding for his leg that has been cut. it's constanly getting smaller and he needs a lot of cushion to use his prosthetic, i've seen him purchase thick type socky things for people with prosthetics and he went and put like 5 of them on.. one over the other ... along with the gel cushion sock and some other foam type cushion. so do.. i guess... the idea is.. it's okey to hella pad these harnesses for maximum comfort so as not to hurt your skin. trust me i know what it's like. i see my dad struggle with the same issues. we can sew on there a lot of padding to take the pressure off your limbs and skin.

http://www.joann.com/fabric/foam/

here we go... foam type fabric that we can use for the harness.
and line it with some really cool soft plush fleece fabric, "cool racing color"

uuu.. we must think color scheme ... and we should put this whole foam on the entire seat, for cushion to absorb the massive g forces you will be experiencing. :laughing

I'm venturing to say that we need the 4" or 3" for ya for the seat and maybe less for the harness. it's $99.47 for a 10 foot roll. that should be sufficient.

here's an idea for a seat color fabric scheme.. silly i know. i got it from a childs car seat... but it has some neat carbon fiber looking sporty fabric, and it's black, so it can get pretty dirty and no one can tell.. lol

notice the cusion for the head.. i think you might need this. swaying side to side.. you're gonna need head cushion. and arm rests. also.. the seat would have to elongated on the leg part. you need support for the entire legs.. they need cushion and be supported all the way through..

we're gonna make this happen!!!

edit: added link to "Adult Car Seat".. i don't wanna spam the thread.

never mind the pink color. but ... it's an already made cushy seat! for adults. put that in a sweet type metal fabricated shell around the seat. and we're practically there. =D

We have an industrial sewing machine and have done canvas and a little bit of harness work. What about one of those seats from a mobility scooter? I see those things on craigslist all the time (keep thinking it would be cool to get one and put a 250cc 2 stroke motor in one).

One issue with the seats on electric wheelchairs and scooters is that over time they get very very loose and rickety and can't tolerate the stresses of something like a petrol engine. The chair on my current wheelchair is already squeaking and straining from about two years of use with its electric motor. Not to say it can't be done though

Good to know. I wonder if something like a bucket seat with a 5-point harness pulled out of an old stock car might be a decent platform basis.

The FIA rated ones are carbon fiber, and are so strong they need no support structure other than the bottom mounting points.
This is an example of a "full enclosure" type seat https://www.recaro-automotive.com/us/product-areas-us/motorsport-us/products-us/pro-racer-hansr.html

Notice that the seat extends around, and slightly above, your head. I figure this would be a good additional support area for "spirited" use for someone with a weakend torso/neck.

Also note how deep the seat bottom area is. While this would provide large surfaces of contact to support and spread the load... It will also make exiting the seat difficult for the assistant.

A possibility to overcome that issue might be to replicate this general design, but have the outside panel removable.

Great desire Adam.

Wish you the best in finding that smile.

Why ride next to someone?

Adam, there's a guy who races in MRA that's a para...and he goes pretty damn good!

sadly, pictures of me are a bit deceptive. In person provides a better picture of what's going on with my limitations.

I have no balance. I barely have control of one arm. Other than that I have shoulders and up.
I'm currently working on driving one of these but even this will require significant electronic control modification

I'm mentally designing a restraint system for the pillion of a Goldwing. I think there's MORE than enough surface area there, but where do you put the straps? Five-point plus three per limb.

Lateral support under the armpits is necessary as well. I'm a sack of meat.

i'm all for something like this :teeth wicked looking. exactly along the same lines i was thinking.

M&G and I were talking about it a couple months ago it seems like a pretty simple vehicle, the question is how I would control it... I've been looking into sip and puff controls as well as electronic assisted systems. The cockpit does seem a bit tight though not sure how we get a recaro in that space.
