Musician thread

Ooooh always wanted to learn how to play the Mandolin, props to you Curt :thumbup

Another benefit of the mandolin: it's small enough to strap to the back of the bike. But I also have a Washburn Rover mini guitar (full size neck, tho). I wish I got the Martin, though, the Washburn has crappy intonation and a really thin sound.

I had one of the Backpackers a few years ago. It's okay, but I felt it had a real tinny sound. It's more of a novelty to me than an instrument.

I have the Washburn more for camping trips on the bike and such than for use as a 'real' instrument. It's not very practical to strap the Martin to my back and ride off for several days...

I've been playing guitar for around 30 years now. My current collection:

'87 Gibson Les Paul Custom Lite: Black
'88 Gibson Les Paul Custom Lite: Cherryburst
'89 Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite: Black W/ factory Floyd Rose tremelo
'02 Gibson SG Special Faded w/ cresent moon inlays
Fender USA Highway 1 Strat with Gibson 500T
Taylor Big Baby Acoustic
Peavy Bass
Krank Rev. jr. mini half stack
Fender GDEC

30 yrs is a long time Mark!

I'm a LP guy too.

My first one was a late 80's 'reverse tobacco burst' studio ?? I've only seen one other like it on a Def Leopards vid.

I shouldn't have sold it to my drummer.

Here is my main (and only) guitar now. LP Classic.

I've really wanting a chambered one now tho.

Every Les Paul I've picked up was very heavy. I never could get used to that.

I didn't like how the neck was angled back and super narrow.

The SG was more "normal" and I found it more comfortable, although I've never owned one.

So who wants to get together and start recording a few things? :banana

I'm thinking changing the stock pickups on my explorer copy.

I'm thinking of going with seymour duncan pickups. A JB in the the bridge and a jazz on the neck.

Any other suggestions?

I play early metal rhythm. The tone I like is with the bass cut slightly, mids boosted, and treble on 12 o'clock, with mild gain setting, usually at 12 o'clock.
I also play a good amount of clean with chorus and reverb on the neck pickup.

My current neck pickup sounds muddy, it lacks clarity for cleans.

I've never personally heard a SD pickup with a J on the neck. I'm interested tho.

I've always looked at what the early MusicMans ran with, and threw those on my Carvin and custom. So far I stuck with SMD Basslines.

can you lay down some 70s porn funk bass?

I bought a wah pedal and have been playing porn music :rofl that stuff is great.

lmao.. yes !!! Our jazz band in HS and college played a huge amount of funk. :thumbup

really? that combo is classic, it comes on some of the higher end jackson guitars, and some esp guitars.

to clear any confusion, I'm referring to the SD SH4 JB and SD SH2 jazz

I saw a few ppl in here have recording equipment. Anyone willing to have a quick session?
