As much as you are willing to pay for. As some point, electrics and batteries start to get close to turbines and then you might as well go for the real thing.
My 70mm edfs on 6s power easily put out 5+ pounds of thrust. I have not measured the thrust on the twin 80mm on the F14, but expect it to be in excess of 12-13 pounds. I doubt that model stock will have unlimited vertical (it is a heavy plane).

That is one nice plane. I used to go to the airfield on Monterey Rd between MH and SJ and watch them fly. I have no skills with model airplanes unless burying the plane as far as it will go in the ground counts.

While you are at it pick up a good multi-mode welder, large tank air compressor, some good paint spraying guns and a truck load of Snap-On tools I don't like to go cheap with my garage stuff.
