I bought this do-it-best rake in 2013 when we bought our house. It was obviously a cheap pos, or so I thought. Abused that thing for eleven years raking acres of oak leaves and pine needles and forest debris every year. Eventually the handle wouldn't stay in it, so I pounded a nail through the plastic into the wood and bent the nail over. Then the wood handle broke in two, but it was a longways crack and I used electrical tape the hold it together. It lasted like that for years. It lost several teeth and was still chugging along, then finally the handle broke and I couldn't get the wood out, so that was it. Gave it a viking funeral, toxic emissions be damned. It was a sad day. GNSP...

walked into a trendy coffee place today. Cap costs $5.25 latte costs 5.75.
and the lowest tip option was 18% of course... :laughing

and yes it had latte-art... but the consistency/taste after the first 1/4" layer was meh.

And that's it for the month of May ;)

I was talking with a neighbor today, who told me about being bitten by a rattlesnake when he was nine years old. He was having a mud ball fight with his brother and some friends and was hiding in some brush. He’d had a bunch of burrs in his socks that were uncomfortable, but he was trying to keep still to ambush the other kids.

Finally, the irritation was too much and he looked down to find a juvenile rattlesnake had latched onto his leg and was kind of chewing away, trying to get his fangs unstuck, all the while pumping more venom.

He pulled the snake off and threw it, then called out to his brother, who carried him home. By the time they got to the ER, he was paralyzed and having trouble breathing. The line of swelling where the venom was digesting flesh had propagated up his leg to mid thigh.

This is a point where doctors either need to split the thigh and try to bleed it or remove the leg. They split his thigh, kept pumping him full of anti venom and the swelling stopped advancing.

It turned out he was allergic to the anti venom and his leg developed gangrene. That too reached a point that was very grim and his parents sought out a specialist. They found one in Redwood Valley.

After a few weeks of treating the infection and debriding the wound, the infection turned a corner and they saved his leg.

The man who did this? Jim Jones. Yeah, that Jim Jones.

What the actual f story. .

:wow

And then

.the name?!?!

Quick, I'm off to wiki to see if he really was a doctor

That was a wild ride! Hopefully there was no KoolAid involved :laughing

Quando? My neighbor is looking.

I was thinking around $7k, but definitely open to negotiating. I also don’t mind driving up to Lake county if need be. It’s a nice drive and I have a project going on up there.

Yeah that story is bonkers. I always forget that he was in the bay, though I suppose it makes sense.

Yesterday we went out at 2:30 and didn't come home till 7:30 and I was reminded why I love our whole house fan.

It was high 80s and though we leave the windows open for our cats, and have a ceiling fan in every room other than the kitchen and bathroom, the house was stifling.

Turned on the whole house fan and immediately the low 70s air began to waft through the house and the temp was comfortable after a few minutes and getting lower all the time.

Before it would literally take hours to cool down.

We live in the perfect climate for these things so highly recommended.

And, of course, this AM the attic is cool, not heat soaked as before, so will take longer to heat up.

I will turn on the fan shortly for a half hour to clear the attic again as it going to be another hot day and the attic is already heating up.

Really helps as we will shut the house and if we had a/c would mean we wouldn't have to run it at all.
