So, Dave Ramsey....on car buying....

it's an extension of the "Fuck you I got mine" attitude.

The perception of others getting something they don't pisses them off.

Why? What do you need it for?
Equity.

I hate to admit it, but I’m a little there. A little bit. Have not received one cent of stimulus money.

You all know here that I stay out of all the political discussions. But I’ll indulge this a little. The thread has already taken some political leanings so hopefully this doesn’t push it over the edge to p-trap land.

Are you okay with people making over $80K a year not getting it?

Ehhhhhh. Don’t really have a choice about it. Even though I don’t need it, I’d still gladly take a handout from the gubamint like most everyone else is. And I know the $1600 or whatever it is certainly isn’t meant to live off of, though some have used it to keep their head above water. It’s a stimulus payment meant to stimulate the economy. And most people are doing exactly that with their stimmy bucks. I hear from lots of people in the car business (especially in the gen pop brands), that they’ve been seeing record sales recently. Hell in my own dealership, one of the parts kids is using his stimmy bucks to go lease a new Civic this weekend.

I’m no economy wizard. But I’m pretty sure that in the end, we will all be paying for this stimulus money they’re handing out with our tax dollars. Since I don’t qualify for the stimmy bucks, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that I’m in a higher tax bracket than someone who does qualify. Which means I’m throwing more in the pot. But not getting any back. So I’m helping the parts kid get a new car. All those people I just saw lined up outside the Louis Vuitton and Gucci stores at the mall? Buying new luxury goods on my dime. Gimme some of that stimulus money dammit. I’ll go out and stimulate the shit out of the economy with it! Sigh. I dunno. Just the whole Robin Hood aspect of take from me and give it to those who don’t make as much...kinda gets me a little butt hurt. A little.

Meanwhile. My mother, who has way more money than I do...her only income has been SSI, so of course she’s gotten every stimulus payment. Psssh. Go figure. She didn’t even want it, so she has donated it all.

You parachuted in to a thread with a random political swipe. Maybe you shouldn't throw stones in a glass house with this talk about "constructive".

AFAIK Hunter is not political. He is the son of a politician.
I only mentioned him because hookers and blow came up, and he is apparently a famous practitioner.

You are being overly sensitive. :rolleyes

Sorry I offended you.

BTW, my opinion of Dave is a few pages back. I hardly parachuted into the thread. :wow

Philosophically I agree with you. But I’m not turning down my six figure PPP loan forgiveness. :thumbup

Not sensitive, just calling you out on your hypocritical bullshit.

I should probably clarify that my statement that you responded to wasn't intended to make you feel backed into a corner. I was just legitimately curious if you agreed that people that have continued to be employed and make a comfortable living during all this COVID-19 madness really deserve to get a stimulus check? I agree with you and the others that said so that if one were to show up in my mailbox, I would definitely use it. However, the fact that I make too much money to receive one doesn't disappoint me as much as it does others in my peer group. I've done just fine during the COVID-19 era and there are others that actually need the help. Unfortunately, the only thing people will focus on is the ones that squander it.

Not really Robin Hood when they're just printing that shit non stop

I think many younger folks don't realize that you can't just print paper money without having it backed up to a standard somewhere. I mean, you could, but then it'd basically just be monopoly money.

So in your view, which standard backs up USD?

Honestly, that's fair.

With any sort of means testing for stimulus payments, there's going to be a group of people right on the line who don't get much/anything and feel jobbed.

I would have preferred either A) just give it to everyone eligible, period. or 2) find some way to scale the income limits. $80K in the Bay Area aint like $80K in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
