The Official 2012 NFL Thread

cause I think gore is way overrated, not actually that dependable, and not a really threatening weapon.

Even if he is, Hunter and Jacobs make a 2 back tandem where you really don't need another RB this season. They seem to be stacking up on WR and RB in a sort of Offensive Weapon Overkill. :laughing

If the Defense performs this year like it did last year, the Niners could be a scary fucking team.

every ninerblogger has been trying to figure out who baalke had in mind when he said he had a specific guy in mind at 30. assuming it's not just a smoke screen, if you really think someone is available at 30, it must be someone no one, or almost no one, has going in the 1st rd. jenkins fits, he was a sure-fire top half of the 1st rd guy, then all the "character" b.s. dropped him into the 2nd.

another guy i think would be good and almost no one has going in the 1st (except kuiper :() is derek wolfe, a dt from cincinnati. he can step right into the d-line rotation and eventually replace justin smith.

and, add bruce irvin to that list 49ers blog.

I have a lot more respect for you, and Schneider & Carroll for taking this guy. Not sure about 15, but Schneider is a Green Bay disciple, whose mantra is "if you must trade, never trade up", and they weren't sure if this guy was going to drop to middle of second round.

But yeah, this guy nailed it:

The 2012 Draft: Picture Analysis

dang it! they went for need not glory :(

streeter-james-jenkins and moss we could have taken a bronze at london this summer

just saw a picture of Looney. that guy's got a crazy head of hair. clearly this means he will be an outstanding lineman. /pokerface

he probably should have gone back to the u for another year. doesn't seem to be impressing the nfl types.

if he is still there when the raiders pick they HAVE to take him in honor of al davis.

That's what I read too, he's rather young. We still got a receiver in B.J. Cunningham, wooooo. What a great Fins draft. No Pat Whites, John Becks or other such questionable 2nd-3rd round weirdo picks.

yes! 2 more golden bears picked for a total of 6, more than any other pac-12 school :party

to reiterate: tedford, you suck :thumbdown

Bengals picked up Marvin Jones from Cal with one of their 3 5th round picks I believe. Whats the scoop on him? He'll have a hard time making the team I think. Most likely practice squad material as a rookie unless he just lights up on special teams.

Almost time for the undrafted players to cry into their beer and hope they get a camp invite....which *always* yields walk-on diamonds from the rough.

vontaze burfict assholed himself right out of the draft. think kuiper jr still had him as a top 25 player in january.

chase minnifield and dwight jones wr n. carolina had been mentioned early on as possible 1st or 2nd rders. dave meggett's kid was at the combine but undrafted, jeff fuller a former niner's kid was expecting to go mid rounds. kellen moore boise st qb. chris polk is a real good running back but apparently has a serious medical issue.

Had to google him to catch up....a 1st rd talent at LB that is going to go undrafted? That never happens!

He does seem to have a talent for shooting himself in the foot tho....

mel kuiper's first mock draft this year had burfict going to the ravens at 30

yet another reason january draft speculation is utterly useless

actually, link might not work (it's insider protected). from january 18th:

30 Baltimore Ravens
Record: 12-4
* Vontaze Burfict, LB, Arizona St.

He's been drawing comparisons to Ray Lewis since he got to Tempe, and hopefully Lewis will be around for another year to mentor Burfict. But either way, the Ravens have to consider what they'll do, as retirement talk now is a reality for their legendary linebacker, and Burfict is the kind of player who could develop into a star in his own right in that defense. He is instinctive and rangy, and plays with an edge. He developed a bit of a reputation as a guy who was prone to the personal foul, but if he channels that energy, Burfict could be a very good one. He has a ton of experience as an immediate freshman starter and reads the game pretty well.

from his "big board" also january 18th:

25
Vontaze Burfict *
AGE: 21
DOB: 9/24/90
HT: 6-3
WT: 250
POS: LB
Tkl 69
Sack 5.0
Int 1

He's officially in the draft. With little left to prove, his tape is stacked because he has started from day one. Has great instincts, makes plays sideline to sideline and is far more disciplined than he gets credit for. Might have too much tape at this point.

LAST WEEK: 21
