The Official 2016/2017 NFL Thread

absolutely no way the Raiders get by anyone other than Houston, which in itself is a very long shot. The emotional leader and best player on the team is gone. The defense only did decent when Carr would inspire them.

I expect 14 penalties for a shitload of yards vs. Houston. Still, with the Texants offensive struggles, they'll only win 27-7

IDK, the Texans are a multi-time division winner by virtue of being in a really crappy division.

O'Brien doesn't strike me as a very good coach considering the talent he's been given, especially on defense. They call him a "QB Whisperer" because he worked with Brady, how hard do you think that must've been?... and from what I saw on Hard Knocks working with Hoyer & Weeden (?), his constant refrain was "That's not the way Brady does it!", not seeming to understand HE DOESN'T HAVE TOM-FUCKING-BRADY, he's got Brian Hoyer, who he didn't like, so they signed Osweiler, to back up Savage. :laughing

Yeah, the Raiders have a chance, if they actually play, not like that game in Denver. It would be nice to see this team experience a playoff win, though... I just don't see them going much further.

Having said that, it's been a great year, exceeding anything I thought they'd achieve (I thought 9 wins would be great). The Raiders are relevant, that's a far cry from 4 or 5 years ago when Al left this earthly realm.

I wouldn't mind seeing Steelers vs Raiders in the AFC Championship game. We could rest our starters before the superbowl.

How you gonna stop Miami's J-Train? And Terry Bradshaw said your coach is nothing but a cheerleader. :teeth

I'll give you the running back for sure. He's a stud.

Still don't think it will be enough to beat us at home.

Even if our coach wears a skirt

I agree. The Texans are one undelivered promise after another. They had the truly great JJ Watt but still just could never get over the hump. I think they do not have a great coach. Watt could change the fortunes of so many teams in his prime.

Fins defense is too porous to stop both Pittsburgh's running and passing attack...gave up the most yards in franchise history this year. :wow

Especially tough for a warm-weather team in the cold, we'll need some lucky breaks to win this one. And yet...they somehow hung in there and steal most of the close games this year. They were so close to being 12-4 this year, and so close to being 2-14. Crazy.

I'm hoping next year we can finally see a healthy JJ Watt and J Clowney play together.

Week 6 rematch, right? I'm sure it'll be a fun game to watch. I know I'll be watching. 😁

Wow. Talk about complete bullshit.

“Jed is willing to be the whipping boy to have total control,” I said on the podcast below. “He’s the most hated owner in all of sports right now. New year, 2017, who is more hated than York? Nobody. And he’s totally fine with it as long as he’s the one in totally in charge of the 49ers.”

lmao. fuckin Spanos, Snyder, Haslam, and Kroenke, just to start in the NFL.

I thought about my comments. To me, the Texans consistently UNDERperform for who they seem to be and have. Yes, they are in the playoffs. BUt I got excited to watch them for several years and kept getting disappointed....Gawd knows they are trying with their QB grab....I think the teevee show is a curse....sure didn't work for the Rams...

:party Nobody named "Davis" on your list... :laughing

Still, if Jed can't/won't turn it around, his legacy will always be hinged to Harbaugh's departure, that's just a fact, even if Harb's kills a ref on the 50 yard line in the middle a bowl game on live TV.... :dunno

Happy 87th birthday, Don Shula.

Dolphins and Raiders in the playoffs again in the same year too. :teeth

Mark's not bad, he pretty much stays the fuck outta the way and lets McKenzie run shit.

Granted he's trying like hell to move away, which knocks him WAY down the list.

From the bio of Eliot Wolf, the dude who is interviewing for the GM position with the Niners.

The son of former Packers general manager and 2015 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Ron Wolf, Eliot’s scouting career unofficially began at age 10, when he joined his father in film sessions at Lambeau Field. His scouting abilities continued to develop as he filed his first report at age 14 for the Atlanta Falcons.
Overall, he has spent more than two decades in official and unofficial capacities working as a talent evaluator. Wolf has contributed to the Packers’ draft preparations since 1993, 24 consecutive drafts overall. He has held nine NFL scouting internships – five with the Packers, three with the Falcons and one with the Seattle Seahawks.

I mean, just fuckin sign him. Do whatever.

Even if he does eventually put together a winning franchise the Harbs incident will remain on his record. Albeit more as a, "Jed learned his lesson from this."

I don't get all the hand wringing and hair pulling over the fact that he isn't planning to step down. He represents 51% of the team ownership. He is the owner. It's his pooch to screw so to speak. That doesn't mean I like him or what he's done. I just don't have any expectation that he should or would step down. It leaves me with just one hope: he'll learn from his mistakes. He's relatively young. There's still hope.

I'm on board. Just the type of youth the 9ers need to give an opportunity. Even if he isn't a scouting wiz he has the pedigree and knowledge to be a solid workhorse. Give him a place to set down roots and explore his ideas about how to "do things better" while building a solid foundation for the 9ers. :thumbup

owners have fuckups.

People thing Jerry Jones is good now, after royally fucking up by making himself GM.

The best think York can do is hire people and stay out of the way. You can make a case that he did that after Harbaugh was gone, and he gave Baalke a 6 year long leash and then waited a year too long to fire him.

Amazing how much winning solves.
