The Official 2016/2017 NFL Thread

This is a strange draft...no controversy! Every pick you're like "well yeah, that kinda makes sense."

I like both Niner picks.

Not sure about trading away our 2nd, 4th, and a 6th for to 28th overall but the OG Garnett is a monster. NCAA lineman of the year, I read.

Imagine Blaine Kaepernick, with time to actually throw the football. What a concept.

* the 2015 Niners gave up a sack in the time it took you to read the previous sentence

Zeke at 4. I mean he's going to be badass behind that Dallas line, but... wow.

I can't believe Tunsil fell so far because of a bong hit.

I love Buckner at 7, and I don't hate moving back up into the 1st for the best guard in college football. Niners filled two massive holes on the team.

I feel good about the pick. The kid is young and talented with a huge upside. Honestly I would have preferred Hargreaves, but we have two good starters on the roster already, so we can move pieces around a little bit to let other Eli develop a little.

Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed for Ragland or Jack in the 2nd round and some kind of decent WR project in the 3rd...

He looks like a solid player from a premier program; my facepalm was for the stupid reasons scouts will knock a player down.

Wasn't it odd that was pretty much the only talking point the talking heads had? The draft went so well for every team. Nicely rated player, at a nicely rated pick.

E.E. was the best RB available. Cowboys desperately need a RB. What's the problem?

Desperately?

They have a ridiculous OLine, McFadden looked good last year, they grabbed Alfred Morris too. McFadden ran for 1000 behind that line last year in 10 starts. If Zeke gets a full 16 game season he might go 2000, but if they wear him out like they did Murray he'll be done in 3-4 years.

It's more of a win now pick than taking Jalen Ramsey, which would have set them up for 10 years.

Win now? It's almost as if they have a 36-year-old, quite fragile QB. :p

Well yeah, short term it's probably good, but long term Ramsey would have been a better pick.

Cowboys had a pathetic 8 rushing TD's last year....4 of them by no-name Joseph Randle...who played only 6 games. And then he was arrested for lots of stupid shit then kicked off the team.

Yah sure, they don't need help at RB. :laughing

They really don't. McFadden was plenty good last year, despite there being ZERO pass game to stretch the defense. He put up over 1,000 yards despite the fact that they didn't start him till week 6. He played all 16 games and had the 3rd highest YPC in the NFL. Dude is in a contract year and will more than likely be let go in Free Agency at 29, I can see him back to the Raiders next year possibly. IN the meantime, Run DMc and Zeke are probably going to manhandle the soft D-Lines in the NFC East this year, the Run Game in Dallas is going to be monster and they look like a good shot for the playoffs if they can keep Romo duct taped together for the season, but with Both the Giants and Redskins investing heavily in Defense during the off season, I question the ability to keep him on one piece.

A good player? Surely. Would I invest in him at #4, hell no, not for that team. One of the lowest Sack Totals in the NFL last year and a serious lack of depth at WR suggests to me they could have spent more wisely, but honestly if they wanted to build on Strength, I feel like taking Pax to develop behind Romo might have been a better investment for the future.

If the Cowgirls nab Dak Prescott with #4 in the 2nd round, I will think more highly of taking Zeke in the 1st round. If they ignore their need at QB, I will consider them invested in their own sabotage.

while the Cowboys have a glut at RB, it also has to be considered that both McFadden and morris are old and injury prone. Eliot may very well be the last rb standing by season's end. Alternatively, they can now use the older guys more sparingly which will keep them fresher and more effective. I think it was a good move. maybe not great, since they needed defense. but a good move.

I think the 9ers did very well for themselves to beef up the trenches.

I hear good things about Joseph. Del Rio's saying they did their diligence on the ACL injury, and is confident he'll be ready to play for the season. I guess he's a thumper who can perform all the duties as a safety: center field, ball hawk, hit hard, get in the box and crowd the line. I'll have to put my trust in Jack's defensive acumen.

bring on the next two rounds!

The Cowboys were done soon as Romo got crunched, throw out their 2015 stats as the whole season was a waste.

Elliott is a game changer RB, those are rare. No surprise that Dallas took him so early.

Other than the gas mask fiasco, seems like the only real surprise in Rd 1 was the Bears taking pass-rusher LB Leonard Floyd at #9, dude had only a handful of sacks. Haven't saw a reach like that on a pass rusher with single-digit sacks since the Giants paid $85M to Olivier Vernon. :p

But that is my point. In that, "thorw away season, Run DMc was like the 4th highest rusher in the league. The reality is, the O-Line is so good in Dallas, anybody can be a star. We all saw how good the mega monster Demarco Murray was when he didn't have the Cowgirls grading the road in front of him...

Isn't that a good example of how you can really plug anybody in at RB?

Well, to qualify, you can plug in anybody behind the right line, which the Cowgirls have. Even through the offense was a train wreck after Romo went down, they still had one of the top rushing attacks in the NFL.
