I think they are trying to stretch out how long people will pay for HBOMax as they have dumped a lot of stuff from their lineup like Westworld and some animated DC stuff is gone as well. Plus HotD is turning weird with all the behind the scenes drama. For me I don't think HotD would keep me watching HBO although Last of US is turning out to be pretty good and may make it worth paying for a month to binge it when the complete season is out.
You might be right but I'm still not sure on that. Netflix did it too with the last season of Stranger Things.
I know everyone got used to the Netflix method of dropping an entire season of any given show in one day and then some things went back to "normal" with only weekly releases but taking breaks mid-season is new for a streaming service (at least for shows that I watch). The accepted belief by most was yes, streaming services weren't dropping whole seasons in one day as much anymore so people don't just subscribe for one month and cut it when they're done but splitting seasons into multiple parts, I'm not really understanding unless it's as simple as you say, another effort to keep people subscribed.
There were reasons for normal broadcast TV why they had mid-season breaks but for a streaming service, I don't get it.
But yeah I've also been paying attention to what HBO Max has been doing with some of their DC shows/movies which confuses me a bit. I thought it was a great idea to merge pretty much all of DC content to HBO, it's all Warner Bros property anyway. DC used to have a streaming service for all their shows and a ton of other content (well it still exists) but now it's basically just a website to read comic books online. Which I appreciate... if I'm reading whatever run of comics and there's a gap between issue 20 and issue 25 or whatever and I can't find it at the local comic book store, I can find it online.
I guess ultimately, I don't care. The streaming services I pay for, or share with friends, I like because of the vast library of shows/movies, not just the latest and most popular thing. It's nice to not need to pirate everything.
