World swimming bans transgender women from competing

Dear lord, the 70's called, they want their cliche trans-are-the-same-as-criminals parallel back.

Not at all. The gentleperson feels that inclusion is important in the world, and I pointed out why it's not always that simple. I don't equate trans people with pedophiles at all. However, I do equate including biological women and biological men in the same sex based sport as nonsense.

Popped up in my inbox. https://www.outsideonline.com/health/running/culture-running/transgender-athletes-burden-of-proof/
Tucker's reasoning that the default should be exclusion when you have a category makes sense. Also in the article they refer to a survey of pro female cyclists. This is the only non-paywall article I could find
Alessandra Cappellotto of the women’s branch of the only cycling union recognised by the UCI, Cyclistes Professionnels Associes (CPA), told Telegraph Sport that, of more than 1,000 riders to respond to a survey about trans women, 93 per cent wanted them stopped from racing in the female category.

Disagree. Team sports in particular are a very important role model for Americans, especially young Americans. They are probably our single greatest vehicle for teaching Americans that competition is what matters and winning is always the goal in everything.

;)

If that's the intent, Women will be in direct competition for men their entire lives. Why not begin the "education" from the start?

What the fuck Ernie.

Don't tell me you've bought into this "groomer" bullshit.

Does he really need to tell you? At this point, it shouldn't even be a surprise anymore.

Which is an AWESOME point, but it is the same reason you don't let boxers bring a knife into the ring.

In the real world, you should just shoot the other boxer in the center of mass a few times to win, but in the practice of sport, particularly amateur sports, you create a controlled competitive environment to help build best practices of behavior which includes a healthy respect for the rules and development of the ideals of fair play and a more level playing field.

Same reason fighters are separated by weight class, and MLB Teams don't play against Triple A Teams.

:laughing

You could expand a bit more. But that is a great glimpse of what sports require to be accessible.

S'fine. Was just asking to clarify how I should think of him. And I don't.

what i am about to say will sound very offensive to ernie, and i seriously (seriously) don’t mean any personal offense to him - but very early in my career, after expressing intense frustration over a certain issue someone pulled me aside and explained to me the phenomenon of ‘tired old men’. perhaps a caricature. perhaps part reality. in any event - it was a concept i found useful to understand throughout my career from that point forward.

I'm busy. Catch me up.

A. I am happy that trans people are gaining acceptance. I have zero problems with trans people. None. Except ONE.

Biological males who are competing with biological females in sanctioned sport classified as female sport are not biological females and have no business there. That's it. Period. Delighted to have trans people around, glad to live next door to one. One of the most beautiful women I have seen was trans. You can try and paint me into the corner as bigot, but we have had this discussion more than once.

Tired old men have seen the same old shit most of their life, and don't have the energy any more to pretend it's ok. Please see my previous post above this.
I'm being painted into the corner as bigot, and actually find it amusing and sad, as the people doing it are people I have some respect for. Simply put, I'm not parroting the Progressive line. I voted Democratic since LBJ and have supported liberal causes all my life. Biological men in women's sport doesn't happen to be one of them.

Then why bring up the pedophile thing? Its completely unrelated.

What difference does it make? The point wasn't to connect pedophilia to trans people. The point was that I was responding to a poster who chanted "Diversity and inclusion" and I made an example of why "Diversity and inclusion" isn't necessarily a good thing. Bad example? Yes. Good point? Yes.

I don't want diversity in my life to include living next door to pedophiles, murderers, rapists, and con men. I did, in fact, share a house with a convicted murderer who was a truly evil man who got out on a technicality. He was a vile, bigoted, misogynistic and violent man. He had the upper flat, I had the lower. I moved out to get away from him. When he was drunk he threatened me with a gun. And we both know there are progressives out there who believe that guys like him are just misguided people.

It would have been much easier and better to come up with a parallel that isn't demeaning to a specific group of people. The reasons why we want things is important and the parallel you drew tells people what your reasons are: because you don't like them. If that's not true, then don't use examples which are demeaning, so you don't accidentally convey a reason that isn't accurate.

You bet, Bob.
