World swimming bans transgender women from competing

No, I'm going with " Say polite things when someone uses hindsight to criticize your actions."
I think people are being unfair to afm199. That seems to happen a lot here, with people nitpicking and taking things out of context to 'win' a discussion.

Ernie and I have had our clashes of perspective over the years, especially back in the early days, but he has always been consistent with his views, always brings a wealth of experience and perspective into discussions and I have never seen him write anything that would paint him, even marginally, to be a bigot.

If somebody is trying to paint him as such, they're barking up the wrong tree, I value his posts and don't like seeing anybody trying to state or hint that he is bigoted in some manner.

Ernie, keep being yourself, keep posting, there are a lot of people in here who view you as a big asset to the KS. :thumbup

You're obviously old and probably a conservative boomer. :laughing

Three days pf doubling and tripling down instead of saying, "yeah that example was no good". We are able to understand his point by seeing through the pedophile reference, but he refuses to see through his stubbornness to acknowledge that it's a derogatory parallel.

What difference does it make? The point wasn't to connect pedophilia to trans people. The point was that I was responding to a poster who chanted "Diversity and inclusion" and I made an example of why "Diversity and inclusion" isn't necessarily a good thing. Bad example? Yes. Good point? Yes.

I don't want diversity in my life to include living next door to pedophiles, murderers, rapists, and con men. I did, in fact, share a house with a convicted murderer who was a truly evil man who got out on a technicality. He was a vile, bigoted, misogynistic and violent man. He had the upper flat, I had the lower. I moved out to get away from him. When he was drunk he threatened me with a gun. And we both know there are progressives out there who believe that guys like him are just misguided people.

I'll give the benefit of the doubt that you haven't been paying attention to the rhetoric of prominent transphobes, homophobes, and religious reactionaries. Especially in the last few months, they have been smearing anyone who does not follow what they regard as the 'norms' for gender identity or sexuality, and people that support them, as 'groomers' . Essentially they are calling all LGBTQ people and allies pedophiles. So, when you bring up pedophiles at all in a discussion about trans people, whether you intended or not, that's what people will read into your comments.

Also, I have no idea who you are talking about saying that progressives believe that 'pedophiles, murderers, rapists, and con men' are just misguided people. That's complete bullshit. If you look at what people are actually doing, the ones that defend pedophiles, murderers, rapists, and con men are basically always regressives and reactionaries.

I see that it could be taken that way. Big difference. Apparently you want me to cry "mea culpa" for something I didn't do. Kind of like the thought police.

Ooops. I used the wrong words. I'm a shit. Totally bad person. I regret this deeply and I assure you it will never happen again.

I live in Oakland bro, where our ultra progressive city council has members who actually state that crime by certain groups isn't really crime, but reparations. Where the police department is no longer allowed to make traffic stops because they are "racist" as more members of one group are statistically stopped.

Dear lord, even the General Hospital audition panel would have said to bring it down a notch.

I certainly haven't seen anything remotely resembling what you are talking about. I do see reactionaries and regressive types pushing people who are credibly accused of child sexual abuse, rape, and fraud into leadership positions.
I do see those same people pushing to get rid of sex ed, which has been shown to massively reduce CSA, and pushing to allow child marriage.

Why didn't you address the first paragraph of my post?

There is nothing to admire in the extremes of either side. Perhaps we can leave it at that.

The majority of us see it that way. The extremists aren't able to understand the mystery behind your words. :laughing

You guys are out of your cotton-picking minds. Someone really needs to start cracking the whip around here, like chop chop.

Why didn't you address the first paragraph of my post?

For the same reason you don't address my post. It's like reading fantasy. I can't believe you actually think the way you do, and you can't believe I think the way that I do. So let's shake hands and be on our way.

The extremists on one side want to turn the country into an theocratic ethnostate.

The people called 'extremists' on the other side want to give people free healthcare and education.

They are not the same.

Apparently Ernie using a poor choice of words and those pointing it out are now extremists.

Yea, I don't get it.

It's really easy to just apologize for feeding into the rhetoric of people conflating LGBTQ people with pedophiles, and if it was an honest mistake I don't see why he wouldn't. Not doing so after being made aware of why people are bothered sort of indicates that it might not have been an accident after all.

That is utter hogwash and a mischaracterization, not surprising since it's hard for people to see their own actions subjectively.

I agree with your characterization on once side, at least for one of the extreme groups, but on the other side is a socialist, never punish criminals, give everybody whatever they want regardless of whether they want to work for it or not and tax all rich people so that they have no more than the people who don't want to work at all.

'Poor Choice of Words' could be applied to just about any reasonably complex statement that somebody makes if the accuser is willing to examine it for a way to represent it to get outraged over.

You guys should go work for Tucker Carlson, he loves to use writers who find excuses to be outraged over minutia and invented characterizations. :twofinger :laughing
