So basically you're going with "NO U"..?
I think people are being unfair to afm199. That seems to happen a lot here, with people nitpicking and taking things out of context to 'win' a discussion. No, I'm going with " Say polite things when someone uses hindsight to criticize your actions."

Ernie and I have had our clashes of perspective over the years, especially back in the early days, but he has always been consistent with his views, always brings a wealth of experience and perspective into discussions and I have never seen him write anything that would paint him, even marginally, to be a bigot.
If somebody is trying to paint him as such, they're barking up the wrong tree, I value his posts and don't like seeing anybody trying to state or hint that he is bigoted in some manner.
Ernie, keep being yourself, keep posting, there are a lot of people in here who view you as a big asset to the KS.![]()

What difference does it make? The point wasn't to connect pedophilia to trans people. The point was that I was responding to a poster who chanted "Diversity and inclusion" and I made an example of why "Diversity and inclusion" isn't necessarily a good thing. Bad example? Yes. Good point? Yes.
I don't want diversity in my life to include living next door to pedophiles, murderers, rapists, and con men. I did, in fact, share a house with a convicted murderer who was a truly evil man who got out on a technicality. He was a vile, bigoted, misogynistic and violent man. He had the upper flat, I had the lower. I moved out to get away from him. When he was drunk he threatened me with a gun. And we both know there are progressives out there who believe that guys like him are just misguided people.
Three days pf doubling and tripling down instead of saying, "yeah that example was no good". We are able to understand his point by seeing through the pedophile reference, but he refuses to see through his stubbornness to acknowledge that it's a derogatory parallel.
Also, I have no idea who you are talking about saying that progressives believe that 'pedophiles, murderers, rapists, and con men' are just misguided people. That's complete bullshit. If you look at what people are actually doing, the ones that defend pedophiles, murderers, rapists, and con men are basically always regressives and reactionaries.
I see that it could be taken that way. Big difference. Apparently you want me to cry "mea culpa" for something I didn't do. Kind of like the thought police.
Ooops. I used the wrong words. I'm a shit. Totally bad person. I regret this deeply and I assure you it will never happen again.
I live in Oakland bro, where our ultra progressive city council has members who actually state that crime by certain groups isn't really crime, but reparations. Where the police department is no longer allowed to make traffic stops because they are "racist" as more members of one group are statistically stopped.
There is nothing to admire in the extremes of either side. Perhaps we can leave it at that.
Why didn't you address the first paragraph of my post?
There is nothing to admire in the extremes of either side. Perhaps we can leave it at that.
The extremists on one side want to turn the country into an theocratic ethnostate.
The people called 'extremists' on the other side want to give people free healthcare and education.
They are not the same.
Apparently Ernie using a poor choice of words and those pointing it out are now extremists.
That is utter hogwash and a mischaracterization, not surprising since it's hard for people to see their own actions subjectively. The extremists on one side want to turn the country into an theocratic ethnostate.
The people called 'extremists' on the other side want to give people free healthcare and education.
They are not the same.
'Poor Choice of Words' could be applied to just about any reasonably complex statement that somebody makes if the accuser is willing to examine it for a way to represent it to get outraged over.Apparently Ernie using a poor choice of words and those pointing it out are now extremists.
