Cars that make your jaw drop.

Not quite. Think about a country that might also be next to the Adriatic Sea.

Perhaps...?

Well this is gonna settle some debates. My old wagon has about 115K on IIRC. Good comp. That blue is a better color IMO.

Here's some jaw dropping car depreciation.

I knew about the S class cars and 7 series, assumed that for the Maseratis but not some of the others.

https://www.autoblog.com/article/cars-worst-resale-value-most-depreciation/

New research from analytics iSeeCars found that a handful of cars depreciated more than 50 percent over five years, with the BMW 7 Series dropping 56.9 percent and an average price cut of $61,923 over that time.

The vehicles with the highest depreciation — or worst resale value — over five years:

BMW 7 Series: -56.9%

Maserati Ghibli: -56.3%

Jaguar XF: -54%

Infiniti QX80: -52.6%

Cadillac Escalade ESV: 52.3%

Mercedes-Benz S-Class: 51.9%

Lincoln Navigator: -51.9%

Audi A6: -51.5%

Volvo S90: -51.4%

Ford Expedition: -50.7%

Wonder what year's he's using. 2022 and 2021 years would be outliers if included.

The original article is in the link below.

iSeeCars analyzed over 3 million used cars from model years 2017 and 2019 sold from January to October 2022.

Heavy-duty trucks and vans, models no longer in production as of the 2022 model year, and low-volume models were removed from further analysis.

MSRPs from 2017 and 2019 were inflation-adjusted to 2022 dollars based on data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The difference in average asking price for each vehicle between its MSRP and its used car pricing was mathematically modeled to obtain the vehicle’s depreciation.

The top 5 there are no surprise at all. For whatever reason, those Jeeps and Tacomas just hold value like crazy. And that’s been the case for years now.

What is a bit surprising is the see the sporty cars on that list.

Are five year old Jeeps really selling for just $2300 below the original purchase price?
Just costing the owners gas and insurance.

It's hard to understand. It's got to be a brand/lifestyle thing.
Because the Jeeps drive terrible. Ever try and take a long road trip in one?
The ones you see with big wheels and lifts wander allover the road.

I knew a guy who owned one. He took his gf on a one week road trip in it. She hated it so much they nearly split up after the trip was over.

They’re also near the top of the list for most unreliable vehicles.
Look cool as maybe a third vehicle if you have the space for such.

I wonder how (or even if) modifications are factored in there? Like if you bought it for $50k, put $10k of mods, and then sold it for $40k, is that a $10k depreciation or $20k depreciation?

Here are some highlights from a cars and coffee event in San Jose this morning.
