Do You Mountain Bike?

how many runs do you guys get to practice when you get there? would there be time to switch tires between runs? should i bring my backup wheel set with my other tires ready to go? any idea on course length on this one? ANDDDDD for sure, will there be an extended amount of climbing on the course?

you can do as many runs as you wish until the 12pm cutoff -- you'll just have to do the 3 mile climb to the top each time.

1-2 practice runs for me, then my 2 race runs (beg and sport).

Don't see the need to really switch tires.

The DH courses are in the 1.5-2 mile range.

looks like 2 short climbs for the course.

I just joined the poosey club. After being off the bike for almost 2 weeks sick combined with the hot/dry heat I ended up only doing the first climb at Tamarancho and then turning back and heading down(against everyone coming up). The dry heat just had my mouth all pasty and my head hurting even though I was downing cytomax/water like crazy.....aacck it hurts to stop riding :(

Hope everyones doing well at the races today :thumbup

Ride smart folks, the heat has us handicapped. We did a slow (read, stop in every shady spot to rest and drink) Tamarancho loop, I was dehydrated by 1/3 into it, Roxy barely made it around. We have not struggled that hard since we first rode Tamarancho. Not to mention our Auburn disaster

Clarification, I can do ~40mph on downhill fireroads with a 24/36 (80% max rpm) a triple with a 44 might get you a bit more. I assume everyone has a 11T high gear cassette.

Oh damnit, well at least I don't feel as bad now knowing that! I think the worst part was how dry it was, my mouth was so pasty and dry it felt like I just ate a box of powdered donuts :teeth

HaHa I don't think too many of the single track junkies here know about Shellridge, thats a good little workout though :)

Thanks Scott - good job on the 3rd place finish! I wish I could go that quick when I'm feeling under the weather.

It was a good weekend, as decided to do my own Beginner class All Mountain deal. 1st place in Beginner Men 35-44 in the Lake Sonoma XC race on Saturday, and 1st place the Beginner Mens 35-44 CCCX DH race on Sunday.

That Saturday race was especially tough in the heat, but the triathlon training really paid off. The guys I was racing with seemed to fade as the race went on, while my pace was pretty consistent between my two laps. It's a good thing I didn't lead into that first turn, as I didn't know where the course went or how technical it would be. Passing zones were very limited, but the other people in my wave were very cool about letting others by.

It was a lot different from the CCCX XC races we had grown used to - just about everyone was in matching team lycra. The Fort Ord races we had done had a fair number of people in baggy MTB shorts and t-shirts. Not sure if it was the single shaded area where everyone congregated, or the post-ride burgers / beer that were included in the entry fee, but we met a lot of really cool, friendly people up there - I'm looking forward to doing it again!

Sunday's race went well also - I don't think I could have gone much faster without doing something really different. It was a bummer that Roxy wasn't able to race, but judging by the text messages most of us were receiving later in the day, she seemed to be in pretty good spirits. Hope you heal up soon - Downieville awaits!

I reall wanted to head down with you guy on Sunday to the races, but I could not find a bike???

I reall want to head to North * this weekend if anyone is interested in meeting up there

What happened to that hardtail?

I was hoping to carpool, but I didn't know I was going solo until midnight the night before, when my girlfriend said she was gonna pass.

I'm insanely jealous of anyone who makes it out to Northstar right now. It's still a few weeks away for me!

The hardtial has a through crack at the left drop out -

Tried giving it to my bro to weld thinking it was 4130 chromoly but it was make of Aluminum oooppps :wow

So he went to plan B with JB weld that held for ten minutes riding around the neighborhood before it cracked again :thumbdown

So I am looking for a new frame / ride at the moment

If I do make it up there I will get some footage

Good job on 1st place :thumbup

The last Specialized I owned broke in half in the middle of the downtube

My pedals were scrapping the ground on the way home :laughing

I guess it didn't like the numerous 5 foot drops I was doing :rofl

Sweet ride fawndog
