Do You Mountain Bike?

Cool! didn't know they were still doing this. It doesn't like like they're requiring the standard license unless you're going for the collegiate class and they will let you get one there if they do require it.

I might just have to consider doing this, who else is in? I'll be happy as long as I finish and don't get last place :cool

you should go to this race if you can, you'd have a lot of fun. I've done a few races and while it is a race, I also never was truely competitive. I broke the rules at a race a grant ranch to help out 3 other riders that were suffering mechanicals and didn't have the proper tools. I've also found time to chat with people at times such as when you're griding along a section where you can't pass or just don't feel like it (you can see some pretty cute girls out there at times ;)). My favorite races were the Treeze & Breeze out of Davenport. Unfortunately they stopped holding that race due to permit issues but it was just a lot of fun. I'm hoping to do the sea otter this coming season.

And yeah, I do need to actually start riding if I ever want to get back into shape. You usually go at lunch time right?

Frodog: try posting up in the grab bag section of the classifieds

Anyone up for a Santa Theresa Ride after work?

Start between 5-6.

Just the basic loop. Climb up to rocky Ridge, down Rock Ridge, down to the backside, up the hill on Bernal Side and back to the parking lot.

Let me know if you wanna join. I'll be there between 5:30-6:00

Hope it wasn't too muddy for you :). Just saw this post, I'd wait a couple more days before trying to ride there. That area really doesn't handle a lot of rain very well, I've tried it and ended up walking the bike through most of the mud after enough stuck to the tires to keep em from spinning

I rode Fremont Older last night. Excellent traction! There were some trail closures though...I dont remember the names, but they're the first two single tracks from the top (from the water tower). In the summer all the fire roads are covered by a layer of fine dirt that can be annoying; the rain really improved the trails there. I'll probably be hitting UCSC Sat, I'm curoius to see the conditions there.

Sunday ride

I'm thinking Rockville, Annadel, or Tamarancho. Someplace that's rideable after a recent wet spell. Maybe Joaquin Miller.

Soquel was a mess, I'll wait until spring (or a long dry spell) before I give it another go.

I'm not familiar enough with Rockville to put on a good ride there. The trails crisscross a lot - it's supposed to help if you go with someone who knows it. Rockville is in Fairfield.

Annadel is supposed to be similar to Rockville, only larger. AFM Formula 1 champ Jon Bawden said he could show us a few trails there. Maybe someone here could do the same. Annadel is in Santa Rosa.

Tamarancho would be a single 10 mile loop, with a $5 fee for the day. I remember it being pretty rocky in some parts, making it rideable after a recent rain. It's in Marin, out by Fairfax.

Miller would be a double loop - I'm pretty familiar with it. The downhill runs are a bit short though. Certain trails might be closed to mountain bikers already. Miller is in the Oakland hills.

I'm partial to long, rutted singletrack I can carry some speed on (with a few small doable jumps and technical pick-your-way-down bits), but am open to anything right now. Anyone have any suggestions?

- Mike

I hear so much about the backside of china camp... how about front and back?

I'm free Sunday Morning - Down for whater weather permits.

The backside is a workout to both get to and climb out of. There are some nice technical downhill chutes on both the front and backside that aren't really legal - as a result, I try to limit my more adventurous China Camp rides to weekdays.

Going to the top and dropping back down the frontside is a good hike, and throws two drops, two downhill chutes, and a small jump into the mix. This is my typical loop, which is about an 11-12 mile ride with about 1000 feet of elevation.

I'm actually leaning towards Tamarancho. I've never done the whole loop!

solis, give me a ring sometime this weekend and let me know what you guys end up doing, I may be around after-all for a ride!

As I rise from the dead.........

A mountain bike is the only two-wheeler I've been riding lately as I have yet to get another motorcycle since my accident last November.

ANYHOW, Rockville was interesting this past Saturday. I'm not very good, and the rocks weren't particularly friendly to me. But, I did have fun. My first time there, and it was raining. Still cool, still cool.

I ride Joaquin Miller with my brother once in a while. Like I said, I'm not that good, so if anyone wants to ride sometime and doesn't mind waiting up for me, I'd be down.

MrCrash took me out to one of his stomping grounds, which happens to be Joaquin Miller.

I personally think that place is great place with a little bit of eveything. Of course, Crash's routes always gotta be technical and fast. I even learned how to make a drop and jump right without nose diving!:nerd :teeth

Amazing how in such a suburban area, they have such great single track.

Anyhow, I have the first week of November off, if you wanna ride let me know.

Thanks Mike for showing me another great trail.:cool

repost :twofinger

For Sunday, I'm thinking either the backside of China Camp, or the frontside to the top. From the top, you can hit a platform drop off of the missile silo, followed by two short technical downhill chutes, one jump, and two short drops - all stretching over several miles of singletrack before making it back to the main road.

I kind of want to explore Annadel or Rockville, but I'm trying to stay local. I'm supposed to be in the South Bay in the evening for something - that much driving gets tiring :)
