Do You Mountain Bike?

Splits right at the top of the seat tube and then on the down tube near the BB. It's not as fancy as an S&S coupled frame, but it's half the cost. I will say that riding 650 w/ a 2" tire is pretty awesome if the roads are crap. Give it a go!

i've been dying to get the mountain bike back up and running. Just moved to Danville - can anyone recommend some good local trails worth checking out?

Pleasanton Ridge

thanks! found some trails near danville/alamo as well though they're pretty muddy atm

Thinking of looking for a used fat bike/half fat to commute to work (I know dumb idea but i'm set on it anyway) and for riding around.

New ride - It's kinda a mountain bike!

It can run 700x40s or 27.5x2's. I also have a flat bar setup for it. Splits in half to fit in an airline checkable case.

DO IT! I'm really impressed with the ride quality of the Ritchey. A bunch smoother than something like a Surly or other lower end steel frame (I love Surly's BTW). Still not quite as expensive as a full custom frame.

Ran into a giant Diamondback on my ride today

no step on snek.

ive been seeing tons of snakes on the bike trail here in sac. its warming up and they're out to get some food

picked this up on craigslist last night - using it mainly for commuting but also got some knobbies thrown in with the street 3.5's. This thing is a hoot to ride - 4130 heavy ass cromo frame, Sram X9 components, decent raceface crank, sun ringle mulefut sl rims.

Not a bad component setup for a "budget" bike - frame is heavy as sin though. Will be a fun knockaround town and will add some rolling resistance to my short 3 mile commute to work.

Yes it's purple (though they call it grape) - the price you pay for a good used deal ;)

that's cool. I see more and more of those fat tire bikes around...what's the draw? I'll have to try one out.

riding them up in Tahoe during the winter on the cross country ski trails is some of the most fun you can have on a bike. We rented them up in Tahoe right before the first huge storm hit and we had a blast. took some guns out there and did some target practice. i went up last weekend and theres just too much snow on the ground to ride anything human powered now.

They're big for snow and sand. Obviously not much of that here but they're just fun to put around on anyway. i have a giant trance x3 full suspension and. Trek 2100 road bike. Wanted something different for cruising into town for a brew or going to work commuting on the iron horse trail. Less prone to flats and tackle anything you throw at it. Want to drop the psi and take it to the beach too.

When my bike was in the shop getting some warranty work done the shop lent me their demo Salsa Bucksaw (3.8" tires, full squish). I absolutely loved riding it everywhere. I raced a smaller XC event, rode through the sandy river horse trails, all kinds of stuff. It just went everywhere and did everything. And traction was NEVER an issue, which if you have ever experienced a steep climb where power wasn't the issue but traction was, then you can appreciate the extra tire.

It is a part of the reason why in the future when I go to a simplified bike garage (when I take racing less seriously), I will go with a plus tire bike that also allows 29" wheels (like the Cannondale Bad Habit).

So I have my first pro race Saturday, the Fontana round of the US Cup.

My goal is not to finish last. That's it.

And I got the cold yesterday. So here I am being as lazy as possible hoping to fully recover by tomorrow.

good luck man - pro is no joke - i only ever made it to expert when i raced back in college and frequently got my ass kicked (never finished top 10 lol). Racing pro is a top notch accomplishment in my book, no matter what place you finish.

Yeah, it is totally unbelievable how fast the pros are. I'm hoping to survive for about an hour before getting pulled off the course

In all honesty, it is harder to turn pro when you are in your 20's then my age. You only need a certain number of podium finishes, which are harder to earn when you are younger. I have less competition so it is easier to get the required podiums to upgrade. That said, in the first race of the Kenda Cup Series I raced the pro class (non UCI) and finished second to last, and my finishing time would have put me in first in my Cat 1 category. So I am too slow for pro, too fast for Cat 1 :laughing

I run a Gazzalodi 3.0 tire on my old DH bike...it's friggin awesome! It weighs a ton but every time I replace it with a modern DH tire I end up putting it back on...nothing rips the rock gardens like this thing! Very confidence inspiring:cool.
