I know Harpo and I are good for at least a couple of days up there - from the looks of things, so are Ryan (Pakow), Sonny (Fawndog) and Roxy. We'll give ya a heads up!
What are you using as a downhill rig?
LOLa huffy, bought new from K-mart.![]()

As long as there are no injuries incurred,... as a result of Northstar, I plan on doing at least several days there this summer.

Come on Kurt, you're not the first fast guy to come in here and say "i'm slow".
I'm such a squid I crack myself up. I can't ride for shit but I'm all about the bling. Even did the classic standing-still crash 'cause I couldn't unclip my shoe!

Nice bike. Let me know if you ever want to hit Auburn. I'm usually on the trail bike but shuttle the big bike from time to time.
Either way, looks like I'm in for the Boggs 8Hr this weekend --WOOHOO!!arty
Let the pain begin!![]()
This course is all pedal pedal pedal pedal pedal pedal
I'm sure its not that bad, each lap is ~1200' of climbing...I'll just think of it as West/East Ridge (1500') with less downhill.
I'm wondering if I should stick with the 24lb hardtail or the hefty 34lb Turner![]()

Do not bring the Turner. Sonny's Enduro was a beast for that course, way overkill. If it wasn't for the fact that my bike pedals so well uphill even mine would be a beast to lug around that course. There are just a few spots where you will wish you had FS but not enough to actually bring one. I think the lightweight hardtailers are going to own this course.
The only difference with the climbing here is that alot of it is fast. It's not slow really steep acsents like in the Oakland hills. These are long drawn out uphills of seemingly mild grade. Even more drawn out than the CCCX course. You will rarely get down into the small chainwheel upfront until you get really tired. It's going to be all about muscle, stamina, and endurance here. Fuel Fuel Fuel is all I can say. Sonny and I planned on a leisurly ride to investigate so I don't think (or at least as for me) we concentrated enough on nourishment. But we ended up pushing pretty hard and I was quite dehydrated after that lap which was still only 75% of the effort I intend to put into the race. I'm going to drink a gallon of water before this race and have fanny pack full of salt![]()

Which trails do you normally ride in Auburn? I dig that place![]()
Trail: Confluence, Culvert, Manzanita, Stagecoach, Old Stage Coach, a trail we call "Tinker's" off of Stagecoach. Occasionally will climb Clementine to Forest Hill connector and do Forest Hill Loop with Culvert/Confluence thrown in.
DH: Mammoth OHV, Culvert/Confluence.
Excellent route - I usually hit all the trails you mentioned with the exception of Tinker's since the No Bikes sign was raised. Is that still there?
Nothing like jumping in the river at the end of the ride after doing the loop on a warm day!
Here's the MB player for the last 10 miles of the MTB, and the 4 mile run from my xterra:
