EBike Bicycle do you have one?

My wife's Turbo Vado SL EQ medium is listed in the grab bag.

Glad this thread got bumped. What do we think of this?

This is the Vanmoof V. Vanmoofs have been around a little while now(all commuter style bikes I believe), and their gimmick was that the bike has a front hub motor. Front wheel drive bike just seems incredibly weird to me. But this new V model is two wheel drive. Apparently, it’s going to be capable of going very fast, though I don’t think any country will ever allow the potential 37mph they’re claiming they can make it. The pictures you see are just renders, but they’re taking reservations for production sometime in 2022 for $3500.

I personally think it looks really sleek, everything integrated, almost like if Apple made a commuter e-bike this is what it would look like. I think the downside to all that integration would be service and repair would not be for just anyone.

What do we think of that ?

It just went bankrupt..not sure why , but maybe there were too many different brands out there. :dunno

No. I am still one of those folks who has always 'weighed' my bicycles, so I have never been on the e-bike train. It took me until a just a few years ago to get onboard the full-suspension train.

Also, I just invested in a $3K Scott MTB for myself and a $5K Cannondale MTB for the Wife. So, I do NOT plan on spending any more $$ on bikes for a while.

After riding more non-ebike lately unless you have massive hills or can't get sweaty and are still in a condition to ride a regular bike I'd say stick with a regular bike.

I'm so mad I've yet to convert my Larry vs Harry Bullitt to electric. I have the 1000w BBSHD bafang motor and large 24ah battery. It's a relatively easy build but time is not on my side AND I keep changing my mind on the cargo box I want to build and how to hide the rectangle battery.

I'd like to also convert an Edgerunner I got my wife. Be about $1400 for motor and battery. Mid drive, BBSDH.

Lots of tech in the field. One Bullitt build a guy installed a mid drive and a hub motor. He can haul some good weight or just go fast.

I'm not sure how much use we'd get out of the bikes BUT with a 3 year and almost 1 year old, it would be really simple after dinner to do 30-40 min rides or cruise downtown for dinner and back.

I thought about buying new BUT then if a motor or battery fails it's a more $$$ repair. Also, new ebikes are typically less torque than aftermarket motors.

Duh

Literally a description of why ebikes are "cheating" :laughing ;) for comparable distances

Van Moof went bankrupt because it couldn't keep up with the repairs. They invented most of the parts in their own way so that no one else could repair them and then couldn't fix them all. NPR called them the Tesla of bikes, not sure how apt a reference. Now they are a theft target for parts.

I think any type of bike that gets people outside is a good thing. Turn a no-ride into a ride, or turn a 10mi ride into a 30mi ride, or turn a 30mi ride into a 100mi ride. Any version of it is a good thing.

The high end e-bikes are still mostly unaffordable. For that money I'd rather get a real Carbon road bike with e-shifting.

But that's what you need to pay if you want it weigh a lot less than the 80 lbs mine weighs :)

IDK, $3750 for a 33lbs e'bike from Specialized that has a Futureshock up front and won't burn your house down sounds like a great deal.

I paid $5000 for mine a bit less than a year ago and it is a great bike.

But you’re right. I paid only $1500ish for mine 6 years ago but it’s very heavy and not up to date on tech. I’ll ride it until it dies.

IDK I think you have to realize some people call $3750 "unaffordable"

True, but not uncommon for folks to spend that on an analog bike.

I never paid more than $750 for a bicycle before but this one.

There was a time when even a $750 bike was unaffordable to me.

My problem is justifiable and not unaffordable. I bike for exersize and my old Trek is still working. Would like two ebikes on the back of the Class B van. I just can't justify the bikes I would like. Other things I would rather spend the money on.
