Anything above 75 in SF is cause for people to collectively lose their minds, anything over 85, everyone dies :laughing

Also, I think of the things you listed, Fortran is the only one I know, and only because that was what a buddies dad made his career working on.

Applied for a job at PG&E of all places, I guess at least if I get that I'll be able to get some of my $$ back?
25% discount. Good luck and hit me up if you want to talk.

Good luck kuro.

I just got offered a job in hydro. Way better situation, SE pay etc. is have to move to Redding though, which may be a non starter. But damn, I'm tempted to take it.

Thanks, it's a bit of a hail Mary I suspect "Senior Business Operations Specialist". The role sounded like things I can do, but isn't 100% aligned with my previous experience, at this point I'm just sending out apps in hopes I get an interview to really understand the role and whether I am a fit. I'm also not adverse to looking into something more blue collar and getting the needed education / certs, so long as I can live off it in SF.

Flx Harley Rider: it's 73 but you can get sunburnt at 40 in the winter in Tahoe, so.....ya don't hold water there boss!

Looks to be an opening for a sewer maintenance worker in Tahoe...
Why not just apply to be a cop? ;) 😀 a birdie working in the city told me they actually help out with the mortgage...wtf.

You actually know Fortran?!? That one was falling out of favor when I was finishing HS...

Good money if you get enough overtime apparently... https://sfist.com/2024/07/22/sf-rel...cer-made-465-000-in-overtime-alone-last-year/

I've never been much at getting people to respect my authority though, probably not the job for me.

Fuck PG&E. That project killed my entire passion for my profession and is what made me leave my last job. Well at least made everything dead and made one of those people who just go to work because they have to. I've been there with different jobs.

I watched Office Space last night (not that I've never seen it before) but I identified with it SO MUCH more.

3 things

1) Being trapped in mundane daily routines.

B) Not giving a fuck day to day

3) That feeling when you don't give a shit about your job and meet a lady in a random way and spark an interesting romance.

PC LOAD LETTER. WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN!?

If only working in construction paid a living wage (in the SF Bay Area) I'd have fulfilled the office space dream when I got laid off last year :laughing

Construction and repair definitely pays a living wage and more IMO.

Like for example I need someone to replace a window. Not to mention other people things.

Working construction in Hawaii was one of my favorite jobs ever.

Tired after work, maybe sleep on the beach, or at home, get up do it another day.

I always tell my friends to stop asking me where to go when they're on vacation because they know I used to live there. I DON'T KNOW. I was busting my ass 6 days a week and my 7th day, I just wanted to lay on the couch or in bed. I mean, there are A LOT of places I know for food, happy hour, etc... but it's only because I was accepted in as my uncle's nephew. These places didn't like tourists. He'd lived there for over 25 years. I miss him.

Sometime, I'm going to go back to Oahu and do all the tourist things I never had time to do while living there.

Were talking "HEAT" as in temperature not sun exposure at Tahoe in the winter! :x

Fortran's still a major player in the HPC environment.
"That one was falling out of favor when I was finishing HS" Ha, ha... punk ass kids now-a-days! :afm199 'Prolly never heard of "card to tape" either.

It's what you make of it
Being in a union is great, but you have to find your own motivation. My job is incredibly frustrating but I make good money and have amazing benefits. My team is incredibly supportive. I would not want to be a contractor for us. You have the PG&e workload with consulting pay and benefits.

That said, I do recall you posting frequently about working from your hot tub, playing video games all day, and finishing your work at noon and being done. That will never fly in consulting, as I believe you eventually found out.

Hey BL :wave sent you a FB message. It's too soon but had to ask.

I'm bad at faking things :laughing I could probably be a line person, but I have my doubts that pays enough to be SF middle class.
The rate for a journeyman is $95 an hour. The first year as an apprentice you make 40% of that. Not huge, but enough you could survive if you tighten your belt a bit.

Anybody playing once human, also is it just me or this thread still takes like 5-10+ secs to open?
