What do you mean you people. :x

I’m avoiding going to the eye doc right now.

Xx

Yeah, I like going by a barbershop and grabbing a random one , too. Almost did it today but they were busy m came back later.

:banana :party

I have much interest in seeing Barbie as I do in watching a polka jamboree.
There are much better flicks that I haven’t bothered watching yet.

Lol. Weird that you can say that without watching the movie. Barbie is a great movie.

I would never tell someone they're supposed to like any movie. It's all subjective interest.

Just wanted to express that the Barbie movie is more than what you'd expect.

I was pleasantly surprised by it in the end.

That's all. It's very far from the hill I'm willing to die on.

Hey Nate, are you signed up with Covered CA right now, or are you thinking about signing up?

Thinking about it. That or Medical as I can't afford to keep paying COBRA. Need to figure that out this week I suppose.

Also, I should get my eyes checked before COBRA expires, things are definitely not a sharp as they used to be.

I'd say be real careful doing this and know what you want before you start. We were in the same boat, laid off and paying $2k+/mo for cobra(family of three). When I was laid off at the end of May, I had already made more than the minimum for MediCal, but they ran me through it anyway because my ongoing income was too low through unemployment. And MediCal fucking sucks. You're basically using homeless people services and that shit is way less functional than a taco stand. For days I couldn't even get someone on the phone. Email? Ha. Maybe it's good where you are, but it was terrible here.

I'd have much rather been at the low end of qualifying for CoveredCA plans, something like Kaiser silver was $100/mo or thereabouts for three of us, if you can make it look like you're a low earner but still above MediCal thresholds. If you have a 401k or something like that, it might be worth paying yourself a monthly wage from your 401k so that you disqualify yourself from MediCal. And for what it's worth, we did get MediCal sorted and are now using Kaiser through MediCal and everything is okay, for now, but I'd still way rather be on an actual Kaiser plan through CoveredCA.

There are no instructions for this stuff and nobody's willing to tell you the ins and outs, so just be real careful about the information you submit, because it's locked in cycberspace for a couple of months once you submit it and good luck getting info once you've been kicked into MediCal.

Crazy scheme! (How does a 401k salary work?)

Anyway I'm meeting the doctor per chance (barf doc)

Nice appearance of m d, with the glasses advice, late at night

The startling amounts people pay for healthcare is simply startling.
Its like a mortgage payment.

Takes the boogeyman out of socialism, for those who believe in the existence of socialism boogeymen.

So you’re saying I might like polka jamboree? I kinda got a feeling I wouldn’t.

Profound

S'posed to be clear weather for a week or so. Time to ride, boys.

We're about to go pay $2k+ today for some scans/tests at the vet. Literally more than private healthcare for our family of three would cost for an entire year in europe.

I've seen a couple of power outages for 1 week.

Only due to rain. WTF :wtf

Good info, thanks. So as far as I can tell you can just claim an income number to get Covered California, if you make too much you'll owe it at tax time, and if you make less I'm not sure they care since you were paying in instead of getting it for free. Seems like I can qualify for a good subsidy an only pay 150 a month to get gold, or silver is free. Given my behavior on motorcycles, I think Gold makes more sense as theres always a chance of landing in the ER.

I think you can just draw off it and take the tax hit if you so choose. 10% penalty on top of whatever tax you pay on the gains for withdrawing early.

The CoveredCA website made me upload income docs, but I never got the feeling that there was anyone looking at anything, so I dunno. One nice thing about CoveredCA is that it's really easy to get someone reasonably helpful on chat, though I did have some terrible ping-pong with MediCal where they were each telling me to talk to the other. Overall it's not been a great experience and I laugh whenever people talk about how poor people get all this free stuff, because anytime I've dabbled in poor people things, it's been effing awful.
