You don't need turn signals to pass SI tech, they are not policing anything but sound levels. What you do on the roads to be.legal or not is between you and the chp/local PD.

... I don't think the cut-off will be an issue
this year, because it sounds like they don't
have to get a BLM rider-limiting permit ... ? :dunno

... I always simply mailed my application in ...

... had more issues
over the years getting my
loud
bike
though tech ... :laughing

You are likely right about the turn signals. I do know that they check for spark arrestors, in addition to evaluating sound levels.

I should have no problem passing the two above. Worse case I'll bring stock pipe if for what ever reason with the spark arrestor/silencer don't pass.

Aaron, I'm so sorry I passed your muffler insert last year and didn't pick it up.... I still feel bad about that... should have known it was yours when I saw it... I remember your homemade spark arrester failed right?

I have a second spark arrestor I believe if someone needs. I'll have to double check the condition of it.

:laughing No need to be sorry, man.
That little DR sounded ANGRY after that thing fell out. :rofl

It's not a big deal. I had simply safety wired the one from my 690 into the shitty aftermarket pipe on the DR. I ordered a replacement awhile ago and it set me back a whopping $12.

Agreed! Each year my missing turn signals was never an issue. But make sure you have a plate attached and a muffler with a spark arrester. And it needs to pass the sound check to get the maps and rider info.

Thanks. I got the head light, tail light, plate, and a front left turn signal. :) hahaha I may try to find a right signal just to make it legit/even. I don't want the rear signals as they will be the first to break if the bike drops for some reason.

I got the pipe and arrestor so I will be solid. Thanks for input!

In regards to legality.

Your bike still needs to be street legal. The Sheriffs department as well as the local authorities will be at highway crossings and in areas where the dirtroad ends and turns into a roadway.

They will be looking for folks and or bikes that dont follow the rules. I have seen, over the last 5 SheetIron events, cops hanging out and watching the bikes exit the trails onto the roadway. I've seen riders get cited several times too.

A bunch of dirtbikes, same time every year.... its like fishing in a stocked pond.:rolleyes

So, take it easy. Keep the front wheel on the pavement. Make sure that you have a quiet bike. (and turn signals?)

I will do my best to hide in the middle of the herd and keep the wheelies to the dirt and short shift on the street. :) Easy enough. Thanks for the heads up.

The limit will still be enforced. We do not need a permit from USFS, but we still need one from BLM, and we still need to maintain our sanity (as much as possible).

Rally a group of buddies and do it on another weekend. The line for gas is shorter, no dust. GPS tracks are available.

I can't say this is a bad idea. I don't like crowds. But, last year was my first Sheet Iron. For $75, it was one of the highest levels of organized events I have ever participated in. The OMC puts on one heck of a good time. The bulk of riders was not noticeable, nor did it detract from my groups ride. On the rare occasion of a bottle neck, I typically found myself in need of a break.

Can't wait for SI2017!!!

... god bless the OMC ... :ride
... the SFMC maintains its sanity
by being way too flaky to organize anything ... :laughing:thumbup

see you in Ft Bragg
to get my photo took, ha,

Agreed!

The OMC does this event right. This will be my 6th or 7th. Always impressed with the organization add commitment.

I'm usually at the end of the group as i stop often to take pics. Last time the Sweeps stayed with me until i told them to leave as i would be fine. These guys look out for you.

Note: There are currently about 30 slots available for riders who have not yet sent in their entries. Response letters were mailed on Monday, so riders who have sent in their entries should be receiving their letters and rider numbers any day now.

So if my check hasn't been cashed it means I didn't get in? Maybe it got lost in the mail somewhere.

Does anyone have any recommendations on jart-style rollchart holders? Not too many on revzilla that I can find. Any holders more durable than others?

Also, do people do these rides on bigger Adv bikes? When me and a buddy turned our slips in, two people were at the house at the same time and made a point to tell us we were gonna have a "hard time" my buddy is on a 1200 BMW Rallye and I'm on an Africa twin. From the looks of the maps, things don't seem to challenging ( I'm sure there are hard splits) but is something that is more geared towards DRZs and shit like that?
