You don't need turn signals to pass SI tech, they are not policing anything but sound levels. What you do on the roads to be.legal or not is between you and the chp/local PD.

You are likely right about the turn signals. I do know that they check for spark arrestors, in addition to evaluating sound levels.

Aaron, I'm so sorry I passed your muffler insert last year and didn't pick it up.... I still feel bad about that... should have known it was yours when I saw it... I remember your homemade spark arrester failed right?
No need to be sorry, man.

Agreed! Each year my missing turn signals was never an issue. But make sure you have a plate attached and a muffler with a spark arrester. And it needs to pass the sound check to get the maps and rider info.

In regards to legality.
Your bike still needs to be street legal. The Sheriffs department as well as the local authorities will be at highway crossings and in areas where the dirtroad ends and turns into a roadway.
They will be looking for folks and or bikes that dont follow the rules. I have seen, over the last 5 SheetIron events, cops hanging out and watching the bikes exit the trails onto the roadway. I've seen riders get cited several times too.
A bunch of dirtbikes, same time every year.... its like fishing in a stocked pond.
So, take it easy. Keep the front wheel on the pavement. Make sure that you have a quiet bike. (and turn signals?)
... I don't think the cut-off will be an issue
this year, because it sounds like they don't
have to get a BLM rider-limiting permit ... ?
... I always simply mailed my application in ...

over the years getting my

though tech ...![]()
Rally a group of buddies and do it on another weekend. The line for gas is shorter, no dust. GPS tracks are available.
The limit will still be enforced. We do not need a permit from USFS, but we still need one from BLM, and we still need to maintain our sanity (as much as possible).

I can't say this is a bad idea. I don't like crowds. But, last year was my first Sheet Iron. For $75, it was one of the highest levels of organized events I have ever participated in. The OMC puts on one heck of a good time. The bulk of riders was not noticeable, nor did it detract from my groups ride. On the rare occasion of a bottle neck, I typically found myself in need of a break.
Can't wait for SI2017!!!
