The Official 2012 NFL Thread

Big Ben restructured his contract, seeing the writing on the wall for Wallace if he didn't (and in turn, makes it attractive to keep his top weapon). Maybe there is a brain in that cro-magnon head of his after all!

He's still making the same amount of money, they just spread out the money so that there is less of it counting against the cap in 2012. The steelers have done this with five others guys. They're something like 25 million over the salary cap this year. They have to do it. It's not so much about keeping Wallace as it is just plain necessity. If anyone really wants Wallace, all they have to do is offer him a contract in the 9 mill a year range and Pitt would have to start jettisoning people to keep him. They'll get a 1st round pick from anyone he signs with, so it might be worth it to let him go. It might be that they have no choice.

"And in a surprise move, the raiders acquire the 31st pick from the pats, and select..."
:teeth

IT'S TRUE.

Alright, game time: Pierre Garcon, Reggie Wayne, Robert Mathis. Who do you franchise tag, and who do you let walk?

sign pierre, tag mathis, reggie walks.

Totally agree that they'll sign Pierre, (or try to) and that they'll let Mathis walk. I dont see them tagging Mathis though. They have a lot of holes to fill and are a bit too close to the estimated salary cap for 2012 to invest the kind of money in a plus 30 year old D lineman that the tag would ensure he gets. I think they'll let him walk too.

if BLUE loses Manningham i wouldn't mind seeing him wear scarlet and gold. no o-line picks at 30 but maybe another DB to start grooming, or a nice RB to compete with Dixon as Gore's successor.

or shit, even another WR to spin up and have at full speed for when they let Droptree go in 2 years.

try scarlet and silver, or whatever the buccaneers have, apparently he wants to follow the x-giants o-coordinator to tampa.

as for the draft, lets see what happens in free agency first. who knows who will be available at the end of the first rd anyway. we used to be able to pinpoint this a little better when we only had a few teams in front of the niners to figure out.

oh, and the niners just signed ahmad brooks to a 6 yr deal. guess they won't be looking for an olb in the early rds...

I still like to think that Manningham will stick in New York. His talent for getting injured makes me think that a smart team won't risk the kind of big #1 Money it would take for him to leave the Blue Machine.

He did play in those uniforms his first few years, and when they brought out the "retros"....

I bet he ends up elsewhere. Just a hunch.
