The Official 2012 NFL Thread

:laughing Careful, I just heard 10,000 knives sharpen in the Mission when you said that.
nah, williams is an o.k. slot receiver. but i could see them upgrading in the draft. they tried replacing him last year. if owusu checks out medically, he might be a possibility later in the draft. if kendall wright drops because of his 40 time, i could see him in the first. joe adams from arkansas is a possibility if he's around in the 3rd or 4th.

but williams gambles too much on punts-- not just the giants game, he has a history of it-- and, as we have clearly seen, the risk is way higher than the reward with him.

i'm warming up to the idea of a pierre garcon or robert meacham, and a non-1st rd wr. i also like marvin jones from cal, he's a good receiver who got a little overshadowed by keenan allen at cal. he has good speed and is solid all around, he'd be another good 3rd or 4th rd guy.

streeter is big and fast, sure, but he is raw. depends on what rd they can get him. the walter football mock has the niners picking him in the 3rd.

edit: there are more than one mocks on the walterfootball site: one had streeter to the niners in the 3rd, the other had streeter in the 2nd to the texans, 2nd seeems kind of high for a guy who didn't produce anything until his last year, has suspect route running and hasn't shown great hands

yeah, there's no way Williams should need to take another punt return in his professional life. not worth it. the Raiders had a guy like that: Johnny Lee Higgins. heard of him? well, he had two returns for TDs in one game, won that one for us in fact. and then...lots of fumbles. cost us a lot of games. not worth it. nope. best to leave it to the offense to score points, when fumbling away an easy score is on the line.

actually, the day I met tuxumino. he has season tix in the opposite of what is called Black Hole. awesome, awesome tickets to be sure. we coordinate, i buy him many beers (a stipulation of the terms of me attending with him), and the 1st play of the game vs. Tennessee: Higgins fumbles the kickoff on the 2, Titans recover and score a TD. game was pretty much over then. ended up losing like 37-7 or something...i forgot the score cuz I was buying so many $9 beers...anyways, yeah, Williams not needed.

and Rod Woodson and Faneca too.

s'all right though...he can come to the Raiders and be treated as a player of his caliber should at the end of his career. :p

Also expected, but add Aaron Smith to the discard pile:

Considered the best defensive end in their 30-year history of running the 3-4, Smith and his agent learned yesterday from the Steelers that they would release him – something Smith predicted would have to happen because he would never know when his time was up unless he was told. The Steelers have had no announcement yet on Smith’s status.
“We talked today at length,’’ Schaffer said of his telephone call with coach Mike Tomlin. “We’re celebrating 14 years of having the privilege of playing for the Steelers, and Aaron is celebrating having more time with his five kids and wife. There are no hard feelings.”

yes i fucking heard of johnnie lee higgins, added him to my fantasy team one week. :mad

tux didn't make you dress like sailor moon did he?

:laughing

i'm not trying to say William's is the bee's knee's as a WR. just that he has more value to the Niners than Ward does. Niners need to get bigger and faster at WR, not older and slower.

also, i have hope that he can and will learn from his mistakes and develop professionally in to a player with better decision making and sound(er) fundamentals. that's really what he needs, cause he's already got the gas.

well, he didn't really make me...

haha nah actually I rocked my Sharks jersey and got mad props for it.

kemoeatu, smith, it will be a different steelers team that's for sure

seems like a lot of names leaving at once.

have they already re-stocked and started the next generation of the Steeler's Way? or are they about to fold like me at a poker table? :laughing

I have a feeling that this is Dick LaBeau's last jaunt. I have a feeling once "his" starters are gone, so will he.

gregg williams and sean payton are dirty pieces of shit.

saints bounty

i hope next time williams or payton gets hit on the sideline they get their necks broken. fuck them

Think they have a choice? Average age of the D was like 36.

It's brutal, but this had to happen sooner or later. Younger guys weren't getting any time on the field, and they'll never develop like that.

Honestly, players do this shit and it's all just Ball. Having it institutionalized by getting support from the Coaches is just wrong shit though.

as expected, Niners placing franchise tag on Dashon Goldson.

Some people on the intertoobnets are thinking they will let Carlos Rogers walk and that as good a season he had, it was primarily because the front 7 kicked so much ass and having an 'elite' CB getting paid elite money isn't really necessary.

some people are thinking the niners want him to hit the free agent market and find out he isn't worth as much as he thinks he is: a la goldson last year. there are a lot of corners on the market this year.

well then, wonder how much whitner got for knockling pierre thomas's ass out cold.
