Disagree. Please review Smith's career as a whole. I've bitched for a while that dude is the second coming of Kerry Collins. A guy so good you don't want to cut him but so bad you hate to keep him. That sort of inconsistent play can haunt a team for YEARS, much as Smith has for the Niners and Collins did for the Giants. That's the problem with a dude like that. You can't really build a team around him because you NEVER know what you're really going to get. Maybe Smith is over the hump and will be solid now, but he has had a lot of up and down years that make me think he deserves to be trusted as an all year solid game manager.
agree to disagree. reviewing Smiths career as a whole has it's place when reviewing his career but placing those results with Rollin' with Nolan, Hostler, Simpletary, Raye, etc and saying those results have ANY bearing on his results with Harbaugh and Roman is misleading at best.
I'm not a blind Smith apologist. I realize that Manning is a better QB, even at 75%, than Smith. I believe that Kaep may end up being a better QB than Smith. But I truely believe that Smith is the best QB for the Niners right now. Kaep's inexperience and Manning's injury risk are not worth it when even a 5-10% improvement from Smith will bring a Superbowl win. even more so since i believe that Smith would show closer to 25%-45% improvement. especially now that he's finally got some fucking WR's!
I picture a worse INT ratio but significantly better 3rd down and Red Zone TD ratios. I also think a lot of what happens at QB for the Niners will be predicated on how well the oline does and how they resolve the issue at RG and backup roles. no stats but i feel like Smith had 2.1 seconds (exaggeration? maybe, maybe not) or less on almost every snap last season. when he did have 3-4 seconds he seemed way more successful. i don't think Manning, or any QB, can succeed with that little time to throw.
