The Official 2012 NFL Thread

You want to talk historical Football or do you want to talk current winners? New York Giants win both conversations. ;)
jesus h. christ, have you been tiresome as fuck this off-season. you would think your team dominated the league last season. you lost to the niners during the regular season, had to go into overtime to get past them in the playoffs and then you squeeked past one of the shittiest defenses to ever take the field at a super bowl.

i really don't recall the steeler guys being anywhere near as obnoxious and douchebaggy as you've been about this super bowl win: i don't really recall them talking much, if any, shit at all. even the pats fans weren't as persistently obnoxious and they, arguably and unlike the giants, had something that could be considered a bit of a dynasty.

and you started this whole thing by talking about super bowls (you know, the games that began in 1967 when the packers beat the afl champion chiefs). then you tried to back track and make it about the entire history of the nfl, because you realized in the super bowl era the giants have fewer championships than the niners.

but yeah, i'm sure harbaugh and baalke are trying to emulate your team by picking up your #3 receiver and a has been, oversized hb who might still have some use as a short yardage specialist. happy now?

damn, McKenzie just gave up Bruce Campbell for a backup RB from CAR that I haven't heard of. not really happy about that.

That's the dumbest comparison of teams I've ever seen, and horribly biased, 3 of the best teams ever (94, 89, and 84 Niners) all in the same bracket to guarantee only 1 of them makes the last 4? :rofl

'76 Raiders were fucking awesome....BUT

The '89 Niners would have mopped the floor with every other team on the board. It is undeniably the most well-put-together team ever. Not just well-put-together, but well coached, balanced, and determined. They had the class of the position at nearly every position. Glad it wasn't the '85 Bears that won though. That would have been an even bigger crok 'o shit. Oh and I still miss you Sweetness.:rose

On second thought, the '84 Niners and the '92 Cowboys would have given the '89 Niners a run for their money for about a quarter. But that would be the best that any team could have done.

your team lost. the people have spoken. suck it up, princess. :teeth

I think that is part of the problem. There were too many "people" voting on this and not experts. '76 Raiders belonged in the top 4 though. No arguing that.

are you saying people who vote for the Raiders are only quote-un-quote "people"

heyyyy now, that's just not nice

Keep telling us how it was in the olden days, grandpa.

:laughing

I started talking about the current Superbowl Champs. Not SUPERBOWLS. The Forty Niners have so far recruited 2 members of last years Superbowl Offense that beat them in the NFC Championship game. That is certainly worthy of a bit of fair ribbing. You know what bugs me though, is some fucking social deficiency that just doesn't want to make most guys give my team any credit. I mean shit, when the Steelers won a couple more, nobody said they couldn't play. Nobody denied they were any good, they talk about Rapey McRaperstein and a bunch of other shit, but nobody but denies them as winners.

For some fucking reason though, everybody not near the Tri-State area just wants to fucking talk about getting lucky and all this other shit. I go and look at all the accomplishments over the last 5 years and go, "Fuck Me, what do we have to do here? How much do we have to win to get a little respect?" I mean, I have guys from teams that just saw their first playoff game in a fucking decade talking about how we're not real Champions when we've won our SECOND Superbowl since they came around an entire generation of America ago. I mean, shit, that Superbowl five years ago is consistently ranked by all the professionals as one of the top 5 Superbowls of ALL time and OFTEN as Number one. I try real hard to be cool and gracious when we win (except the Eagles, fuck those guys) and give credit where credit is due when we lose, but this Rodney Dangerfield shit is starting to get on my nerves. I mean, how does a team that has been one of the defining backbones of the NFL, that has shaped so heavily what the NFL is at it exists today (OFTEN to it's own detriment), who has won so many championships with TWO of them in decent history get some of the opposition to say, "Hey those guys are pretty damn good, they play some pretty tough ball out there." I mean, after 2 Superbowls in 5 years, you'd think we'd a LEAST deserve a little, "one of the better teams out there," instead of all the, "they got lucky again," and "Philly has the East this year." It's starting to drive me fucking nuts, especially when it's for a team that unlike a LOT of other organizations does almost NOTHING inappropriate to piss anybody off. The Coach is ULTRA Professional, we skip trick plays, we don't play for flash stats and run up the score on teams while going for it on 4th down with a 45-0 lead, the QB is quiet and reserved, we don't tolerate showboats and jackasses on our roster, we don't have Bounty Programs or Signal Recording Cheater scandals, shit we even have a SECOND Football Team in the Metropolitan area that we deport off all the most obnoxious Fans to, which is something Boston and Philly sure as shit can't say.

I mean, I feel like the team keeps its nose so clean that nobody wants to give them any credit because its BORING to have a team with so few personality defects be some real heavy Champions and that's a damn shame, because so many Teams run their outfit like a Circus these days, I think the NFL could use a lot more of that.

And for what it's worth, I think Jacobs is going to blow the fuck up for the Niners.

amen on Da Bers, Raiders and Niners. 00 Bal did not belong in that list. they were only half a team.

'00 BALT team was phenomenal because their Defense outscored most Offenses they played against, as well as their own Offense. but they were not a final 4 team. maybe final 8, at best.

i would give a nod to one of the Pats teams from the past decade over Baltimore just for the sake of diversity but the '89 and '84 Niners teams would STILL be in a class of their own were they playing today.

it's not being butt-hurt stating a fact - the Niners got jobbed by lumping 4 of their 5 teams in to one bracket. but it's moot because as has been said, the Raiders won a popularity contest - not a real game vs. the '89 Niners (which they would have lost). :twofinger

not a fan of the Jacobs signing. i'm with Jerry Rice on this one. he's soft.

I think you're right, he's not the beast he used to be, but I say he still has game in him. If he has to compete with Gore for time, I think he'll show it to you. He wants a third ring that DOESN'T have a NY tag on it. I see some busted Safeties being carried out of the backfield in SF this year.

that's because the giants STUNK until late december. JFC, they lost to the fucking SEAHAWKS at home AND the redskins, also at home with rex grossman as their qb. they lost 4 games in a row to playoff teams at one point, so pardon us if we aren't ready to enshrine their asses as one of the nfl's all time greatest.

look, we were all pleased as punch when they beat the patriots in '07, mostly because the vast majority of us hated the patriots and didn't want to see them go undefeated. but you can't expect people in the SAN FRANCISCO bay area to be thrilled about your latest super bowl when it came at the niners' expense.

Dude, you are going about this the wrong way entirely. If you want to make el dirtys heard explode ya got to remind him that the g men also lost to the eagles. :twofinger

:dunno Injuries told that story pretty plainly and I outlined how they could get healthy and make a good run at the end of the season like 2 months before it happened. If anything they were UNLUCKY in that they spent most of the season injured and then finally got to play ball they way they SHOULD have been all season when it mattered in the last few games. The team was that good all along, they were just nursing some wounds taken in the preseason and early games.

No, I have become accustomed to that in the Stupid Andy Reid Era. They just seem to be able to do it to us the way we seem to just have the Cowgirls number. Why do you think I spend so much MORE time hating them than the Cowgirls? :laughing
