The Official 2012 NFL Thread

i hope for the Fins sake they don't take Tannehill. they should shoot for Kellen Moore, Boise, in the 2nd round. MUCH better value. much better QB, too. shit, i bet Tennehill might even still be there at ~40(?). Moore might be better than Kaepernick, even. i would laugh my ass off if the Niners took him in the 2nd.

wat.

Kellen Moore was pretty much given a UDFA grade. Taking him in the 2nd would be laughable.

ok, difference of opinion on Moore aside, Tannehill is not a good pick at 8, even if they want "their guy". Weeden or Cousins in the 2nd would be less of a reach.

back to Moore - i think he will get drafted. but i guess we're both a little guilty of hyperbole? :toothless :twofinger

As an interesting side note, of the last 15 QB's picked in the first round since 1987 (Vinnie Testaverde) only 3 have won Superbowl Rings as starters.

The trick is not to look for a first round QB; the trick is to look for a franchise QB. I'd be more interested in seeing the number of franchise QBs that were picked in the first round versus those picked in later rounds. And to bolster that argument, how many SB teams since 2000 did not have a franchise QB?

Well, depends on how you define a, "Francise," QB. I'd say ALL of them except the Ravens and Bucs.

I don't understand the definition of Franchise...

I understand the sentiment, the team is building around that person, but I don't think it means anything anymore.

not exactly, the case has been made elsewhere

Best player available? Making the case for Jenkins

2nd best corner in the draft at 30 because of "character concerns"? niners could do a lot worse

Just used him as example cuz the analysts were talking about his arrests causing him to slide down the board. Hadn't saw that story yet, don't even remember him playing at Florida....damn he's better than I thought. :laughing

Harbaugh is nails, he can mold kids like that into shape.

every ninerblogger has been trying to figure out who baalke had in mind when he said he had a specific guy in mind at 30. assuming it's not just a smoke screen, if you really think someone is available at 30, it must be someone no one, or almost no one, has going in the 1st rd. jenkins fits, he was a sure-fire top half of the 1st rd guy, then all the "character" b.s. dropped him into the 2nd.

another guy i think would be good and almost no one has going in the 1st (except kuiper :() is derek wolfe, a dt from cincinnati. he can step right into the d-line rotation and eventually replace justin smith.

and, add bruce irvin to that list 49ers blog.

another thing baalke said last week was that the niners "need" at rg and wr was a media opinion. the niners just might be happy with their situation at both positions. or it might be another smoke screen and they take silatolu, zeitler, konz, rueben randle, stephen hill or kendall wright, just like the various mocks have them doing...

and HAPPY DRAFTMAS! everyone :party or in spanish, FELIZ NAVIDRAFT!

I think the Niners still need a long-term Center, and shore up the O-line a bit.

95.7 just talked about the effects of Jamarcus Russel being a flop. one major effect: for this year, 5 YEARS LATER, the Raiders have effectively picked 3 QBS in this years draft: #17 overall for Palmer, a 3rd rounder for Pryor, and a 4th rounder for Campbell who's now a backup for Chicago. and that doesn't guarantee Palmer's success either, which basically boils down to the old adage that drafting a QB early in the 1st round and not having it work out, sets the franchise back many years.

damn, all cuz he wanted to sizzurp all day. thanks a bunch, JaMucus.

So tonight's the night. Last night I saw Michael Irvin and Mariucci glad-handing the crowed lined up for tickets.

I am gonna walk by again tonight to see what it's like. It's raining, so probably not as much activity...

wtf

Minnesota is trading No. 3 pick Cleveland. More ahead on ESPN.

him and Harbaugh having alternating messages has cracked me up. they're obviously playing games. :laughing

navidraft = :party

Browns want Richardson. TB was trying to trade past CLE to get him.

Bengals picked up CB Kirkpatrick and Guard Zeitler. Zeitler could push to start and apparently has played a bit of Center. Wisconsin develops some mauling lineman so hopefully he has that pedigree. I was hoping for DeCastro and I hate that the Steelers got him. Hopefully he's a bust. Kirkpatrick could end up starting as the nickleback, or they might ask him to play some Safety. Overall a potentially nice 1st Round.
