The Official 2016/2017 NFL Thread

I think you're going to be very happy with Leon Hall as your nickle cornerback. After rewatching the season recently, I was really impressed with his play as the Bengals nickle defender.

Shit, I wanted the Fins to sign Hall since our CB's are mostly all new to the team this year. Especially since the rook CB Xavien Howard that was penciled in as starter tweaked his knee and needed arthroscopy before training camp even started <facepalm>, so use that Fins pencil eraser to rub out his name and put someone else there. :mad

Thankfully the talented rook will be healthy by the season opener, but with no training camp or preseason, he'll be useless for awhile. Hall would've been a nice addition, damn you Giants...

I was hoping the Bengals would resign him for some veteran depth, but he will get more playing time on the Giants team than he would the Bengals. He's a really smart, well prepared corner.

Yeah, he will probably be our starter in the slot for nickel packages. Eli Apple will have less stress to start as a rookie, with DRC, Jenkins, and Hall, Apple being 4th man in the dime. I think he is a great depth signing for us, we no longer feel thin at CB for me, it is really starting to feel like a strenth position, despite losing the Prince. I'm trying not to let myself get too excited about this new defense we are building, but the only guy better than Eli last year was Brady, and we are looking way better on Offense as well...

ummm yeah no. Eli wasnt even the top five best QB's last year.

Check that stats for last year at NFL.com. Eli is tied for #2 with 3 other guys. Bortles, Newton and Palmer all also tied for #2 at 35 Touchdowns. The only guy that got more was Brady at 36. That was with Beckham being the only guy we could count on and everybody knew it with double teams galore. This year, we have Shepard, Beckham, and a Cruz I suspect has lost a step, but can still ball.

Get your Fantasy Teams fired up, kids, Eli is going to pay you. You just wait, Eli will lead the NFL in Touchdowns this year.

Funny to look at the stats for 2015, mixed in the Top 10 passers are Brees, Brady and Eli.

2010, top 10 mix is Brees, Brady and Eli.

2005, top 10 mix is Brees, Brady and Eli.

I checked the stats. Eli wasnt top 5 in passing yards,(6) completion percentage, (19) Yards per attempt (13) passer rating (13) or yards per game (8th) The only category he came in the top 5 in was touchdowns, where he was tied for 2nd with three other qb's. Hardly the 2nd best QB last season. Not in the top 5.

I didn't say 2nd best, I said Brady was the only guy better. Subtle, but important difference. Other guys were better in other areas, but you can argue all day this and that over Comp %, Avg Comp Yardage, etc. I figure a lot fo guys could make a case for #2, Eli among them. Me, I will stand by TD's as the biggest show a QB's success. A QB with a good QB Rating and few TD's is counting on the run and good D to win games for him. TD's measure how much of the team a guy is going to carry on his back. The point is more that Eli was blowing shit up last year and with Defense and a Run that are supposed to be better this year, especially the D, I think we're going to really see something.

LOL, also, my guys came up:

Whatever game of semantics you need to play with yourself to believe Eli had a top 5 year you go ahead and play. The rest of us know better.

You said Top 5, not me, you're the one playing semantic games. All I said was that he was in with the top guys, because no one but Brady had more touchdowns than him. To say that the guy who had the 2nd most TD's in the league is not a top level player is absurd, you do know scoring TD's is the point of the game of football, right?.

The important thing to take away here, is he had almost 50% more Touchdowns than Dalton, so Bengals fans can all eat a bowl of dicks.

What all intelligent football fans know is that last year Dalton out played Eli Manning and that's all that really matters. :twofinger

Absurd, intelligent football fans know that even rooting for an AFC team makes you a subhuman and that such troglodytes couldn't possible understand the higher thought processes involved in evaluating players for real football teams in the NFC, who actually matter, because they win the Superbowls.

NFL Hall of Fame today.

Brett Favre is in the Hall of Fame now. So strange, his career. He's Mr Green Bay for life. Whoops we meant he's New York Jets.

Oh hay he's Minnesota Viking man, bitchslapping the Packers/Rodgers not once but twice, winning the division, utterly destroying the hapless Cowboys in the playoffs, and only just barely losing the NFC title game to the Saints in overtime.

That magical Minnesota year will get swept under the rug as Favre is forever tied to the Packers. But that purple year was a damn good year for him.

Kevin Greene, holy shit that guy was a pass-rushing monster. You just couldn't stop him. Or his long-ass blonde hair spilling out from under his helmet. He was simply unblockable. This MF'er had 37.5 sacks AFTER he turned 35 years old. Unblockable.

They just straight-up cancelled the garbage HoF game. No one really cares, but damn....poor field conditions like that, so dumb. Who's getting fired?

Erase all that and say "meddling owner ruins team for 21st year in a row."

Tom Brady....so relieved to take a few games off in 2016.

I feel like Week 8 will probably be his doom. A new part of the eternal Eagles/Giants rivalry is that since the 1960's we have a competition to see who can break the Cowgirls QB first, which is extra fun since they have added the Glass Cannon as their starting QB to the roster. We get to play them for the opener as per usual, and I think Romo will still be able to stay alive for the 1st game of the season. Philly gets their crack at him in week 8, then we both have to wait till the end of the season for another crack.

Most of the games between 1 and 8 are pretty soft for the Cowgirls, but they have to play Green Bay and Cincinnati, both are hard ass defenses, right before the Shitbirds fly into Dallas, which I think will prime Romo for a good shattering.
