Whole Foods Deli has good stuff, but admittedly overpriced

Agree on Whole foods. The prepared / salad area has a lot of healthy choices. I eat Paleo so when out of the house there are few options.

Make a big salad, throw a few hard boiled eggs and chicken into it and you are good to go.

+1

I eat at Wholewallet several times a week. I may have already posted on this thread but I can eat dinner for $6-8. My new “go to” is 1/2 C of brown rice and 1/2 C of quinoa. Some vegetables. And a protein. Healthy and time-efficient.

Race Flat Track next year.

Currently...

I'm probably in the best shape I've been in since I was a Bicycle Messenger.

Things are coming along quite swimmingly (which I plan to add when they finish the pool in Fortuna next spring).

Oh hell yes. Goals.

I just signed up for the Santa Cruz Rough water 1 mile swim race this Saturday. . .

You might want to hit up bill swim for some open water pointers.

I have an alpine mountaineering class in about five weeks that's gonna be right at the edge of what I can physically handle. Currently in good enough shape to handle most low technicality climbs in the lower 48. Rainier, Whitney, Shasta, Hood, etc.

I need to be much stronger by next summer, with a deep resume, because in 2021 I'm going for Denali.

That is fucking awesome!

:hail

Please keep us in the loop on that.

I have no flippin clue how you guys manage to climb. Seriously I'm in awe. I tried to do it like twice maybe at the gym in Santa Cruz years ago. I got like nothing. Might be fun to try it again since I'm way lighter than I have ever been but I still doubt I can do much of anything. Props.

technique is way more important than strength and weight. a newb has no idea how to use or position their body on a climb, so they fall off. it takes time to the build the technique and muscle memory that allows climbers to do what they do, to make climbing feel intuitive instead of just grasping for holds.

as an example, my SO is 5' @ 115lbs. she can run or cycle forever, but shes not strong in any way. plus we climb indoors like once a month these days. she still climbs 5.11a/V3 off the couch because she uses proper technique that took almost a decade to learn.

If I can pull it of $$ wise I'm joining the climbing gym this winter when it gets dark early. The one in SC has a weight room so its pretty much all ya need.

spent last weekend climbing Mt Adams, WA with some friends. the first day we hiked 4.5mi to the camp spot at 9k feet. when we woke up the next morning, the wind was ridiculous and false summit was shrouded. tons of people were abandoning a summit attempt because they started too early. we waited til 8am and ended up hiking in the sun the whole time. the wind never let up, but it was fine. this was my first mountaineering trip with crampons and an ice axe - def fun stuff. it took us around 4:15hrs to hike the 2.5miles to the summit at 12272ft. the descent went a lot faster, esp with glissading down 2000ft of that :D. then we packed up, hiked halfway back to the car and camped in the trees. woke up the next morning and had a leisurely 2miles back to the car. the whole weekend was fun and chill. id def do it again.

Dude! We were up there too, climbed to LC Saturday and summitted Sunday!

Saturday morning lenticular, winds were ripping. Didn't envy anybody trying to climb into that garbage.

Cycle61, im surprised I didnt notice that shirt on Saturday. great pics!

that first pic of the false summit looks like the stuff we waited to avoid. our plan was to start hiking at 7am. im glad we waited an extra hour.

We met a lot of teams on their way down Saturday AM who warned of high winds and miserable camping. Our trip was timed to miss that crap. My overnight pack was only 24# including water. Made for super easy climbing.

Next time I'm gonna do it one day car to car. :)

that hike is prob a lot of fun car to car. the distance is short enough and u could do it comfortably with 10-15lbs at most.

im terrible at carrying weight, esp downhill. my pack was ~40lbs to get to LC. my right knee hated the hike down to our lower camp spot after summiting that morning. ugh. I should prob run more to strengthen it some. thankfully my pack was <10lbs to the summit, even with half the "emergency" supplies for the group.

Yeah, my left knee always gives me trouble on descents, even with poles. I'm working on balance/strength exercises like pistol squats to strengthen it.

Anybody here doing stand-up paddleboard for exercise? Needed to be more active but it's hard with two bad knees. Decided to try out SUPing and I've been loving it. Great full body workout that's not too painful on my knees.

Swim is done. It was hard. I felt slow and tired but it was my first rodio, soo...

Michael M___ 184 OEVT 41 WETSUIT M4044 4 0:27:52.75

27:52 change is a little better than I thought I would do.

for comparison the first place finishers time was 0:17:22.80

I finished 162nd out of 295 swimmers. So pretty much mid pack. Now I know I can swim around the wharf lol.

I am always impressed with swimmers! Awesome!

The iphone step built in counter seems so inaccurate. I walked a trail today that had a 160m elevation change. Took me 1:15 and said I walked just less than 8000m and 52 floors. The trail is only 3km but I stopped to take pics along the way.
Yesterday I did a short walk, maybe 1/2 hr and it said 10300m.
Guess there's no point is using it as any sort of activity gauge.
