What did you do to your dirty bike today?

Instead of making disparaging comments about European motorcycles and/or four strokes, I will post a recording of my reaction to your pictures.

Make sure to check the con rod to make sure it is still straight...

Even if it is, there's a hole in the piston made by...something, and that something is most likely down in the crankcase. Splitting the case (and putting it back together) is beyond my mechanical ability.

Oh boy, that sucks. :| Reminds me I bought a TE510 with a blown motor a few years back, never even opened the motor to find out the issue (did make use of the rest of the bike)...its still in a box in my garage. Gotta crack that sucker open one of these days. Might make a fun project.

Haha, depending on your idea of "fun" :D

While I do agree with your disparaging comments that you didn't make, it seems that here in the great state of California if you want a dirt bike with a license plate, Euro four stroke time bomb is the only way to go.

Nothing to see here K.A.R.B... move along.. :laughing

Be careful rebuilding blown huskys.
I am in the process of a 610 top end that has been 2x more expensive than I was ready for. Valves? $55 EACH. Rings? Nope, only a whole new piston kit available for this model @$225. Then all the little bs. Cam follower bearings worn out, etc. I should have ran away long ago but I am suffering death by 1000 cuts.

Yeah the project ended for me once I got the head off and saw all the damage. Let me know if you want any 510 bits, some of the parts are interchangeable depending on the year of 610 you have.

The piston's gonna make a nice paperweight tho :thumbup

Went for a ride. After telling everybody I bought a house so I could ride my dirt bike out my back door, I figured it was time to do it instead of going out the front door and taking a few hundred feet of streets.

Cue the Creedence and wheelie for safety...

Bother me tomorrow, today, I'll buy no sorrows.
Doo doo doo lookin' out my back door.

As for the rest of the ride, it was shortened due to rain....

It's about time for some new rings.

:party O'Nick! Congrats, man! Welcome to the dark side. We have been expecting you....

Ordered 20 L of oil today. Rocky Mountain ATV has the Bel Ray EXS (Full synth ester) 15-50 on close out for $30/4L. This is the one oil that I would consider using on my 690, aside from the Motorex stuff that I have always bought. A lot of folks on the 690 thread on ADV swear by this oil, but I have never bought it since it was only like $10-15 cheaper. $45 cheaper, however, is a bit different. I figure that if I don't like it in the 690 I will just use it in my other bikes. Win-win.

First you drop it off the trailer, now you put in CHEAP oil, how can you show your face in front of the orange crowd at the $tarbucks ever again? :x

Might as well give me that 690 and go buy that frankenbike back :twofinger

gasgas

I picked up an 03' 300 gasser after the first of the year and I've been slowly disassembling it and going thru it. It has the WP forks and Ohlins rear, basicly stock with a few add-ons. There is a 'Lindeman' sticker on the rear shock so, I'm hoping they keep records of what was done. Today I'm plugging the exhaust pipe and going to use compressed air, heat, and a lot of patience and hammer work to get the dents out. Fork seals and a smaller counter shaft sprocket are on their way. The bike was running 'fat' when I got it but, I'm not going to re-jet till the exhaust is right. I also found out that this is a 49 state bike that was street legal when new. I still don't know if I will make an attempt at plating it. If not this state, maybe another. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to set-up this particular bike? I'm an old, fat, crippled up 260lb. ex. A rider that likes a SOFT ride. It had been SOOOOOOO long since I had ridden a skinny-seated bike that after 40 miles I was WHIPPED and my butt hurt for over a week, I guess looping it off a water-bar MAY have something to do with the sore butt.:afm199:ride:party

Terry make sure you give http://www.lewisportusa.com a call if you need parts, they are the European bike specialists hands down. Ask for Adrian he's your man.

Hush, you! :laughing
I may beat that bike up, but I maintain the heck out of it. So far, it has served me exceedingly well, and I can't imagine any bike out there that could replace it at the moment. It really does do a lot of things VERY well.

Looking forward to seeing the GasGas, Terry! Sid's link is a good one. I wish I could help you with getting it sorted, but I suspect that you know considerably more than I do about setting up dirty bike suspension.
